Position Summary:
As members of the Infrastructure Engineering team, Database Reliability Engineer IIIs are responsible for keeping database systems that support company services and many other company production systems running smoothly 24/7/365. DBREs are a blend of database engineering and administrators that apply sound engineering principles, operational discipline and mature software development and automation, specializing in databases (PostgreSQL & SQL Server in particular). DBREs bring database expertise to our Infrastructure Engineering team, as well as our Software Engineering teams. DBREs work with a broad array of PostGreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, and other technologies.
Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter. Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. May act as a lead or first-level supervisor.
Database Reliability Engineers are accountable for the resiliency, performance, and security of our database systems. They participate in projects to ensure that the company has hygienic, accurate, data available at the point of need.
Database Reliability Engineers troubleshoot production issues and respond to incidents.
Essential Job Functions:
- Work on database reliability, performance tuning, and optimization within the Infrastructure Engineering team.
- Analyze solutions and implement best practices for PostGreSQL, SQL Server, Elasticsearch, and MongoDB database clusters.
- Build observability capabilities of relevant database metrics.
- Work with Infrastructure Engineers to roll out changes and help mitigate database-related production incidents.
- Perform incident resolution, and root cause analysis of incidents. Implement solutions to systematic failures. OnCall support rotation with the team, including after-hours.
- Provide database expertise to engineering & development teams.
- Work on automation of database infrastructure and help development teams by providing self-service tools.
- Database administration, management, maintenance, security, and performance tuning of Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and other databases throughout the development and production lifecycles in Azure and AWS Environments.
- Works with Infrastructure Engineering to use Infrastructure as code tools, such as Terraform for building new databases.
- Develop documentation & provide SME guidance for best practices on database infrastructure setup, operations, and upgrades.
- Works with information security to keep our data secure.
- Works with data architects and data engineers to continually improve our data systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience required; Computer Science or Engineering preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in the development and maintenance of database systems.
- 5+ years of experience with database management systems, system design and analysis, operating systems software, and internal and data manipulation languages.
- Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL Databases; MS SQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, MongoDB, MySQL, and MariaDB.
- Solid understanding of Data warehousing theory and concepts.
- Experience working with Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Experience working in a modern cloud-based environment; Azure, AWS, Kubernetes. Data Warehouse
- Experience with integration tools such as: SSIS, Matillion, NiFi, etc.
- Experience with reporting tools such as: SSRS or Domo.
- Experience using database client tools such as: SSMS, Dbeaver, PGAdmin, MySQL Workbench, etc.
- Experience with scripting: PowerShell, Bash, Python, batch files, et
- Experience with Linux.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, observability tools such as NewRelic, Cloud platforms that interact with databases such as Azure Runbooks, Azure Functions, Azure Monitoring, and AWS CloudWatch.

In an effort to provide greater transparency, we are sharing the base salary range for this position. The position is also eligible for a yearly bonus. Final salary is based on a number of factors including market location, job-related knowledge, education/training, certifications, key skills, experience, internal peer equity as well as business considerations.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$100,000—$130,000 USD
