Title: Database Administrator II

Job Location: One Seneca Street, Buffalo, NY 14203. Telecommuting permitted up to 40% of the week.

Job Description:

Responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, upgrading NoSQL-based Database systems; use Graph Solr, SAI indexing, Spark analytics, and materialized views; use cloud technology including Tinkerpop, Gremling, PySpark, Scala Spark Clear, and Stargate; use DSE 6.8 core components and concepts; develop application requirements and suggest appropriate NoSQL database technology that stratifies the business and application needs per Business use cases; collaborate with multiple teams in resolving issues; resolve general security and deployment standards and tailor DSE implementation to each application based on requirements; provision and automate DSE/Cassandra in cloud technologies including MS Azure & AWS; architect, develop, and maintain fault tolerant and highly available DSE models for critical applications by finding balance between CAP elements; determine DR/failover strategies for DSE and Graph components to avoid down time and business impact; automate deployments for DSE and OS patching with ansible, maintenance and plays; tune and automate components including NodeSync, repairs, Scrubs, restorations, and replacements to achieve high availability while ensuring consistency; design, model, de-normalize, determine replication and consistency levels for Cassandra keyspaces and modeling data for DSE Graph; tinker pop integration with Cassandra and Gremlin query language; back up data, perform node/cluster restorations, node replacements, ensuring consistency and NodeSync; vertically scale, horizontally scale, and scale down DSE clusters by assessing Load, performance, and limitations; perform rolling upgrades, minor upgrades, patching, major upgrades, and handling new features post upgrades; monitor with Ops center, Grafana, nodetool and analyze histograms, performance metrics and benchmark DSE clusters; optimize JVM tuning by analyzing GC data, tombstones, and tailing OS and storage setting as part of performance tuning; perform migrations from external data sources including SQL, and Oracle using Kafka, DS bulk, SS Table loader, Graph Loader and Scoop Strong; set up robust security for DSE such as Encryption at rest & in motion; authenticate for SE/JMX; audit and role management using AD; and analyzing DSE long files in Elastic search/Splunk to find patterns, anti-patterns, and resolving critical issues. 

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field plus three (3) years of experience in the job offered, or as Database Administrator, Database Architect, or related occupation. Requires three (3) years of experience utilizing DSE/Cassandra. Requires one (1) year of experience in each of the following: Using Graph Solr, SAI indexing, Spark analytics, and materialized views; Using cloud technology including MS Azure, AWS, DSE Graph, Tinkerpop, Gremling, Ops center, Grafana, nodetool, PySpark, Scala Spark Clear, Stargate, SQL, Oracle, Kafka, DS bulk, SS Table Loader, Graph Loader, Scoop Strong and authentication for JMX.

Salary: $163,482.00 - $173,482.00 per year
