The Data Steward, Sr. plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency and usability of healthcare data across Quest. This position is central to managing data as a strategic asset, supporting data governance and ensuring compliance with requirements and healthcare data standard.

The Data Steward, Sr. works collaboratively with cross-functional teams – including engineering scrum teams, data analysts and stakeholders – to define, implement and maintain data management best practices. This position ensures that the data is “clean”, well-documented and accessible. This enables Quest to deliver high-quality, data driven insights to support operational efficiency.

As a Data Steward Sr., this role also involves managing data governance type of projects as well as defining of scope and oversight of specific data audits, mentoring junior team members and advocating for data stewardship principles. By integrating project management experience, the Data Steward Sr., ensures timely delivery of defined initiatives, effective resource allocation and alignment with Quest’s strategic vision for data governance. 

What you'll do:

  • Lead and manage cross-functional data governance type of projects, including: planning, resource allocation, timeline management and stakeholder communication
  • Identify, lead and manage periodic audits of specific data points
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in healthcare data management to collaborate with management to continually innovate and enhance best practices
  • Provide guidance, mentorship and training to junior members of the Data Steward team
  • Assist in defining and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of data stewardship initiatives
  • Contribute to the development and long-term data stewardship strategy, aligning with Quest’s business objectives and growth plans
  • Provides lead support for network implementation of all new clients or identified new networks for existing clients
  • Analyze and disposition data exceptions related to practice locations, practitioners, and other related entities 
  • Perform on-line research against approved sources to enrich the data required to manage exceptions
  • Identify patterns in data exceptions to: drive automation opportunities, recommend new business rules, provide feedback to source systems 
  • Document and continuously improve data stewardship procedures
  • Monitor data governance decisions and adjust stewardship accordingly
  • Work closely with account management and data engineering on data issues
  • Perform data investigations related to practice locations, practitioners, and other related entities
  • Assist in audit activities that measure the quality of Quest data assets
  • Assist in quality control of new features and functions related to data management
  • Create and provide training on data stewardship procedures
  • Participate in the training and/or mentoring programs as assigned or required
  • Adheres to the Quest Analytics Values and supports a positive company’s culture
  • Responds to the needs and requests of clients and Quest Analytics management and staff in a professional and expedient manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field; or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience leading data-based projects
  • Familiarity with best practices of data stewardship and governance
  • Experience with SQL strongly preferred
  • Experience working with either AWS or Azure Cloud environments
  • Ability to analyze data, identify exceptions, perform research to track down the correct answer, and work with business groups to resolve those exceptions
  • Detail oriented and highly organized 
  • Task-oriented with ability to work on tight deadlines 
  • Ability to spot and improve gaps in processes 
  • Proven success in independently leading and completing projects 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
