Deputy is a global SaaS workforce management company headquartered in Sydney, San Francisco, and London. Our platform serves over 1.5 million workers and 375,000 workplaces across 100+ countries. We are backed by top global investors and recently achieved Unicorn status.

At Deputy, we’re improving the world of work, one shift at a time, for 80% of the world’s workforce: hourly workers. These are the dedicated employees who keep our world running – from baristas to nurses, cleaners to delivery drivers, florists to factory workers. Despite their vital role in society, most workplace technology has focused on those workers who sit behind a desk, but at Deputy, we transform the frontline. When businesses use Deputy, their workplaces thrive – the business is more profitable, compliant, and productive, while the workers are more engaged and happier at work.

If you’re passionate about creating solutions that put people first and helping businesses and their teams thrive, join us at Deputy and make an impact where it matters most!

We are seeking a talented and passionate Data Scientist to join our growing team and play a crucial role in developing and optimising our predictive models for churn, expansion, and contraction. You will also contribute to data-driven marketing strategies to enhance customer acquisition and engagement.

Responsibilities - Develop and maintain predictive models:

  • Utilize machine-learning techniques to build robust models that accurately predict customer churn, expansion (upgrades), and contraction (downgrades).
  • Analyze large datasets of customer behavior, product usage, demographics, and financial transactions to identify key drivers for each outcome.
  • Experiment with various modeling approaches (e.g., logistic regression, survival analysis, decision trees, deep learning) to optimize predictive performance for each model.
  • Develop and implement strategies for feature engineering and selection to improve model accuracy.

Analyse and interpret model results:

  • Clearly communicate model insights and recommendations to stakeholders across different departments.
  • Translate complex technical findings into actionable business strategies for customer retention, growth, and revenue optimization.
  • Create visualizations and reports to effectively present data-driven insights

Collaborate with cross-functional teams:

  • Work closely with product managers, engineers, and marketing teams to integrate predictive models into the product, marketing campaigns, and customer success initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of data-driven strategies for customer segmentation, personalized messaging, and targeted interventions.

Contribute to marketing analytics:

  • Analyse marketing campaign performance to identify key drivers of success and areas for optimisation.
  • Develop models to predict the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and optimise budget allocation.
  • Segment customers based on their responses to marketing campaigns to personalise messaging and offers.
  • Measure the ROI of marketing initiatives and provide data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Continuously research and evaluate new machine-learning techniques and tools.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with the data science team.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years experience as a Data Scientist and within a scaling organisation is a bonus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills: Proven ability to apply statistical and machine-learning methods to solve real-world business problems.
  • Proficiency in Python and relevant data science libraries: Experience with scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy, and other data manipulation and modeling tools.
  • Experience with predictive modeling, ideally in a SaaS environment: Familiarity with different modeling techniques and metrics (e.g., AUC, precision, recall, F1-score).
  • Knowledge of SQL and relational databases: Ability to extract and manipulate data from various data sources.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills: Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Databricks, AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Databricks, Spark, Hadoop) is a plus.
  • Experience with marketing analytics tools and techniques is a plus.
