The Principal Data Scientist is an independent analytics professional who produces data-driven insights to make a positive impact on healthcare outcomes. They are responsible for designing and developing processes for analytic code development and optimization for machine learning, predictive modeling, and reporting for complex pharmacy and medical health insurance clinical programs and services (e.g., pharmaceutical manufacturer value based contracts, provider accountable care organization pharmacy metrics, medical policy, utilization management, medication adherence, and medication therapy management [MTM]) and quality metrics (e.g., URAC, HEDIS, PQA, and CMS star measures). This position may have direct supervisory responsibility for entry-level and mid- level analysts/data scientists.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualizes advanced scientific model design, including advanced predictive modeling, with health claims data, applying statistical theories and methods to solve complex technical problems
  • Finalize model project deliverables and ensure findings are valid, reliable, and reproducible
  • Use and direct others in the use of open-source data science tools to create and maintain features, listings, tabulations, graphical summaries, and formal statistical estimates and tests
  • Perform and direct others in the performance of advanced predictive modeling for clinical program development/enhancement
  • Develop automated production analysis tools where appropriate and create production predictive modeling process for clinical programs
  • Mentor and coach less experienced Data Scientists and analysts; may have direct supervision over exempt level employees
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, epidemiology, or related area of study, or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant work experience; HS diploma or GED is required
  • 8 years of related experience with large data sets, Python, SQL, open-source data science tools, and building predictive models
  • Experience in leading collaborative coding, code review, and code documentation
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without need for work visa or residency sponsorship

Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly analytical and research oriented
  • Demonstrated expertise with SQL and open-source data science tools
  • Proven expertise building complex predictive models

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare experience
  • Advanced SQL, health care data, and cloud data warehouse experience
  • Research Master's degree (e.g., M.S., M.P.H.) or equivalent

Minimum Physical Job Requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Constantly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, talk and hear
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms

  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

Reporting Structure

  • Reports to Sr Director of Health Outcomes or Sr. Principal Health Outcomes Researcher in the Health Outcomes in the Enterprise Analytics and Reporting department

Potential pay for this position ranges from $109,000.00 - $174,000.00 based on experience and skills. Pay range may vary by 8% depending on applicant location.
