Overview
Data Protection Engineer
Responsibilities
Position Summary:
-
Manage, maintain, and provide engineering and administrative support for enterprise backup/recovery solutions and VMware environments;
-
Ensure applications and systems meet business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) requirements;
-
Manage data retention lifecycle for compliance and archival storage of data;
-
Responsible for hardware associated with enterprise backup/recovery solutions;
-
Responsible for server hardware associated with VMware environments.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
-
Implement and operate tactical plans that align with management-defined strategies to meet corporate, divisional, and team goals;
-
Implement and maintain backup policies, schedules, and standards;
-
Plan and execute proactive and reactive BC/DR activities;
-
Interact with customers to understand and deliver data protection solutions that meet their requirements;
-
Create documentation related to backup/recovery solutions;
-
VMware administration including build, deploy, and patch management.
Qualifications:
-
7+ years’ experience supporting data protection programs and technologies;
-
Minimum 2 years' experience supporting VMware programs and technologies;
-
Ability to establish and maintain data protection architecture, policies, procedures, and schedules;
-
Ability to troubleshoot networks and perform VMware system administration;
-
Prior experience managing BC/DR program or participation in related activities;
-
Demonstrated skills in decision making/judgement and initiative;
-
Possess interpersonal skills and organizational savvy;
-
English (reading, writing and speaking).
Optional Desired Qualifications:
-
Global infrastructure support experience preferred;
-
Exposure to system administration, engineering, or scripting/programming desired;
-
Exposure to other facets of IT helpful;
-
Exposure to Cohesity backup solutions is helpful;
-
Knowledge of PCI requirements and controls desired;
-
Knowledge of Office 365/MS Teams/MS Notes desired.
Education and Certifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required;
-
ITIL certification preferred;
-
VMware certification desired but not required.
