The Data Product Manager will play a key role in developing, managing, and optimizing multimodal data products that drive Shutterstock's data licensing initiatives. This individual will be responsible for defining the strategy, roadmap, and execution of data-related products, ensuring high-quality datasets, metadata enrichment, and monetization models that help scale our substantial multimodal data licensing business. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data science, machine learning workflows, and data monetization strategies, as well as experience working cross-functionally with engineering, data science, and business teams.

Responsibilities:

Data Strategy & Roadmap

  • Help define and execute a product strategy for data acquisition, enrichment, standardization, and monetization.

  • Develop and maintain a roadmap for data products, aligning with business goals and AI model development needs.

  • Identify new opportunities for leveraging data to support AI applications and commercial offerings.

Data Product Development & Packaging

  • Oversee the collection, structuring, and distribution of proprietary and large-scale datasets to support generative AI training and fine-tuning.

  • Work with data engineers and scientists to automate data ingestion, cleaning, labeling, and augmentation processes.

  • Develop metadata enrichment and validation pipelines to enhance dataset usability for AI developers.

  • Manage the standardization of complex datasets for easier integration into ML models and APIs.

Data Monetization & Licensing

  • Develop subscription-based data products that provide ongoing value to AI developers and enterprises.

  • Define pricing strategies for licensing data, ensuring competitive positioning in the market.

  • Partner with sales and partner management teams to market and sell data products effectively.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering and AI research teams to define data requirements and ensure datasets meet customer model training needs.

  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure all data products meet regulatory, ethical, and privacy standards.

  • Partner with marketing and sales to build awareness and adoption of data products among AI developers and enterprises.

Customer & Market Insights

  • Partner with content strategy to conduct user research and analyze market trends to identify high-value datasets that meet industry-specific AI needs.

  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for data product adoption, usage, and revenue growth.

  • Gather feedback from customers and partners to continuously improve data offerings.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, AI, Business, or a related field.

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in product management, data strategy, or a related role within AI, data science, or machine learning.

  • Strong understanding of multimodal AI/ML workflows, data collection, preprocessing, and fine-tuning.

  • Experience managing large-scale datasets, data pipelines, and cloud-based data platforms.

  • Knowledge of data licensing, compliance, and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

  • Experience with data monetization and building subscription-based data products is a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of AI/ML datasets, data engineering, and data quality best practices.

  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and data processing tools.

  • Ability to define KPIs and analyze data product performance.

  • Proven ability to translate business needs into data-driven product strategies.

  • Experience building and scaling data products for enterprise or developer customers.

  • Ability to assess market demand and pricing models for data licensing.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical teams.

  • Strong stakeholder management and the ability to collaborate across engineering, AI research, legal, and sales teams.

  • Ability to present complex data strategies to executives, collaborative teams, and key partners.
