Summary Generated by Built In

At BuildOps, we’re revolutionizing the commercial contracting industry with our cutting-edge software solution. From service management to project coordination, we’re committed to breaking barriers and fostering a team that aligns with our mission. If you’re a motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, you could be our next valuable addition!

We are looking for an experienced Data Migration ETL Developer to join our team and lead complex data migration projects, ensuring the smooth transfer of large volumes of data from multiple source systems to a variety of target environments (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, etc.). In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing ETL pipelines, as well as ensuring data quality and consistency in highly transactional OLTP systems. You will work closely with both technical and business teams to ensure seamless integration, performance, and data integrity throughout the migration process.

What You'll Do:

  • ETL Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and optimize ETL pipelines to migrate data from various unknown or legacy source systems to target systems like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server. Leverage ETL tools such as SSIS, Informatica, Talend, or Fivetran to automate data workflows and ensure efficient data processing.
  • Data Migration Strategy: Define and implement data migration strategies to ensure that large volumes of data are migrated with minimal disruption to business operations. This includes developing incremental load processes, full data loads, and error-handling strategies.
  • Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks within the ETL process, optimizing data transformation and load times. Leverage techniques such as query optimization, indexing, parallel processing, and partitioning to ensure fast and efficient ETL execution.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain data validation, cleansing, and reconciliation processes to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and consistency of the migrated data. Develop automated data profiling and validation rules to prevent data quality issues in target systems.
  • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Monitor and troubleshoot ETL pipelines to identify and resolve issues that may arise during data migration. Provide root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with data engineers, database administrators, and business analysts to understand data requirements, gather business requirements for migration, and deliver data solutions that meet both technical and business needs.
  • Documentation: Document the entire data migration process, including pipeline configurations, transformations, data mappings, and any known issues or limitations. Provide training and support to team members as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously assess and improve ETL processes and data migration workflows. Stay updated with new tools and technologies, and implement best practices to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.

What We Expect:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Equivalent of 6 + years of experience on data engineering roles (building pipelines, ETL Jobs, Designing schema etc.,)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in data migration, ETL development, or data integration roles.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL tools such as SSIS, Informatica, Fivetran, Talend, FlatFile, or similar platforms
  • Experience in Cloud-Based ETL Services: AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory,  Google Cloud Data Fusion,
  • Strong experience with relational databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server. Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python
  • Demonstrated experience optimizing ETL pipelines and addressing performance bottlenecks (e.g., slow data loads, query performance issues, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of data quality concepts, including data profiling, validation, de-duplication, and reconciliation.
  • Experience integrating data from multiple, often complex, sources such as flat files, APIs, and legacy systems.
  • Familiarity with OLTP systems, transaction processing, and ensuring data consistency and integrity during migrations and updates.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to quickly identify and resolve issues.
  • Collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity designing Schema for Data Warehouse (star / snowflake schema)
  • Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in an innovative, dynamic environment.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience working in SaaS companies or cloud-based environments is a plus. Familiarity with handling multi-tenant architectures, scaling data systems, and migrating customer data in a SaaS context is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS (Redshift, S3), Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Familiarity with automation tools and techniques for ETL pipeline orchestration.
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Informatica PowerCenter Developer, or Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP).

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary and stock options.
  • A comprehensive benefits package.
  • Flexible PTO.
  • This is a hybrid work at office in Toronto (3 times per week)
  • Company events like BBQs and team-building activities, both in-person and virtual.
  • Talented and motivated team members who care deeply about one another (seriously, everyone is rooting for your success!).
  • The chance to get in on the ground floor and build something truly groundbreaking for ourselves and our amazing customers.

Forbes Magazine
“BuildOps is unique because it addresses the problem of efficiency in construction for an often-overlooked audience. Rather than focusing on large projects, or catering to owners, they look to the needs of technician-heavy subcontracting firms working in the commercial space.”

TechCrunch
“The new financing will be used to support the company’s continued growth. BuildOps sells software that integrates scheduling, dispatching, inventory management, contracts, workflow and accounting into a single software package for commercial real estate contractors with staff ranging from a few dozen to several hundred employees.”

Crunchbase
In a statement, [former NFL superstar] Joe Montana noted that his firm (Liquid 2 Ventures) has an investment thesis in supporting America’s working class… “I just love the idea of making their lives far easier and better,” he said. With BuildOps, “you have one solution that does it all and talks seamlessly to every single part of their business from parts to ordering to inventory and more.”

Wall Street Journal [Paywall]
BuildOps, the Santa Monica, California, startup that provides software for real estate subcontractors was seeded with $5.8 million in funding from investors including Fika Ventures, MetaProp VC, Global Founders Capital, CrossCut Ventures, TenOneTen, IGSB, 1984 Ventures, Liquid 2 Ventures and Ground Up Ventures.
