The CT Technologist operates and executes CT procedures with expert knowledge of the capability of each CT unit and the ability to perform any and all CT procedures expertly. This includes skills in operating and performing various tasks in preparing, executing, and completing procedures within their CT environment. This would include proper order review, basic and advanced CT skills, and excellent patient care.

CA Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) license

ARRT (R)(CT)

BLS

Fluoroscopy license within 18 months hire/transfer.
Preferred: IV Certification
Experience
Preferred: Diagnostic Tech and CT Tech experience
 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential
Operates Multi-Slice CT equipment according to procedure. Selects appropriate scan angles, slices, techniques and scanning protocols to assure maximum image quality.
Provides radiation and general safety protection for patients and staff according to prescribed safety standards. Adjusts imaging protocols and techniques to accommodate the age, body habitus, disease process and condition of each patient. Minimizes radiation exposure by adhering to ALARA principals.
Performs quality assurance procedures.
Verifies physician orders for exam appropriateness prior to CT examinations. Refers questions to Radiologist, referring physician or manager before performing procedure. All paperwork and data entry is comprehensive and accurate.
Thoroughly explains the CT procedure to the patient before initiating imaging. Conducts an interview of the patient prior to the CT examination to determine patient eligibility for the CT exam with emphasis on the patient's potential for drug sensitivity, allergic history or other compromising medical condition.
Safely transfers patient to and from the CT suite. Positions patient correctly for the CT examination being performed. Properly immobilizes patients for CT examination.
Assists physician in administering contrast media, preparing contrast solutions according to procedures and assembling administration materials.
Checks images for clarity and correct identification.
Displays competence and confidence in the performance of specialized CT procedures i.e. CTA's, and /or CT cardiac exams CT perfusion and stroke protocol, as appropriate.
Uses department RIS computers according to procedures.
Accountable for the timely, comprehensive, and accurate transfer of CT images to the PACS system.
Maintains proficiency with the advanced applications utilized on the CT Post-processing Workstation.
Follows procedures for the timely and accurate transfer of CT images to the teleradiology service. Assures that appropriate demographic documents are submitted as well. .
Keeps designated work area clean and orderly. Equipment is kept clean and room is appropriately stocked with supplies in a ready condition.
Develops and maintains good working relationships with all members of hospital / imaging center, medical staff, and community.
Becomes familiar with and able to assist physicians in viewing images which are maintained on the Imaging Services' PACS system.
May support the hospital with on-call services as needed.
Maintains visual and audible communication with patient throughout exam.
Works with physicians to prioritize studies including trauma/critical, stroke, urgent and stat exams.
Appropriately notifies vendor/engineer in a timely manner when equipment is not functioning.
Verifies two patient identifiers on every patient prior to performing CT.
Notifies Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) in the event a misadministration of radiation occurs.
Able to mentor and teach new techs/students learning CT in a positive manner to assure an environment conducive to learning.
Assists in administering first aid as necessary. Maintains current Basic Life Support certification.
May perform procedures in Diagnostic Radiology as assigned.
Actively participates in CQI.
Assists other members of the shift with patient assignments.

Fully understands and complies with ensuring proper security of medications.

May have access to cabinets that house emergency medication kits, contrast reaction kits, commercially prepared kits, and medications that are provided to licensed personnel authorized to administer.

Responsible for maintaining PAR Levels and currency of dates on supplies and medications they stock.

Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age specific needs. Able to effectively communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.

Pay Range

$42.10 -$63.16
