Position Summary:

OceanX Education is seeking an experienced Creative Technical Lead to be responsible for developing and implementing OceanX Education’s work in interactive media, including mixed reality, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), and immersive content. This role requires a visionary leader with a blend of creative genius, technical expertise, and strategic thinking who can push the boundaries of storytelling and interactive experiences in the ocean space. Working closely with OceanX and OceanX Education leadership, the Creative Technical Lead is expected to be a creative and operational lead, conceptualizing and managing multiple projects based on OceanX content gathered during scientific missions.  Additionally, this role will stay current with the state of the field and keep the OceanX and OceanX Education leadership apprised of emerging trends and opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop creative vision and strategy for OceanX Education’s mixed reality, augmented & virtual reality, and immersive content projects, including interactive VR dome experiences, in alignment with OceanX Education’s mission and goals

  • Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape to inform creative direction and strategic planning.
  • Identify areas where OX Education is uniquely positioned to create impact in the AR/VR space as an educational and media leader focused on science storytelling
  • Develop and implement immersive experiences based on OceanX content gathered from scientific missions.
  • Work with students across OceanX Education programs to create educational AR/VR and mixed reality content.
  • Manage AR/VR and mixed reality fellowships and residencies, teaching participants how to create immersive content.
  • Develop and implement partnerships which will allow OceanX Education to create high quality, education- focused mixed reality, AR/VR and immersive content projects.
  • Solicit and evaluate proposals for future immersive projects
  • Manage contacts and oversee the end-to-end creative process, from ideation and concept development to final production and delivery of studios and teams
  • Coordinate with OceanX Media and OceanX Science to provide content developers with the content they need
  • Manage the budget and maintain timelines for all projects using project management and internal communications platforms, including Monday.com, Slack, Zoom, as well as creative project management tools

Qualifications:

  • Professional Experience:
    • BA or MA in Fine Arts, Digital Media, Interactive Design, or a related field
    • 8+ years of experience in creative roles, with at least 4 years focused on mixed reality, AR/VR, and immersive content.
    • Expertise in mixed reality and VR/AR development platforms such as Unity, Unreal Engine, and WebXR.
    • Proficiency in 3D modeling, enhancing existing 3D content, spatial computing, and holographic technologies, optimizing 3D assets using tools such as Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D, and more.
    • Exceptional storytelling and proven creative vision to engage target audiences with cutting-edge technology
    • Strong portfolio showcasing innovative and engaging mixed reality and AR/VR experiences
    • Leadership experience in studio management, artist management, and creative direction for all digital assets
    • Proven track record building out project management of multiple production timelines
    • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging technologies and global trends including AR/VR and generative AI
    • Prior experience with education focused media
    • Prior experience building creative partnerships in this space highly desirable

Compensation:

Compensation for the role includes a competitive salary (inclusive of a merit-based bonus, dependent on years of experience, level of education obtained, as well as applicable skillset). This position will also offer an excellent benefits package, including a comprehensive employer paid medical plan and CPF.
