The Opportunity:

  • The Controller position reports directly to the CFO and is a member of the Accounting & Finance team. This person will have strong technical accounting knowledge and skills and is also comfortable leading a team, improving current processes, and working at a high-growth start-up.
  • We are seeking someone residing in Minnesota, US.

Key Responsibilities & Duties May Include:

  • Lead a team of 2 direct reports and 4 indirect reports
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including general ledger accounting, inventory, treasury, AP/AR, and payroll, ensuring proper internal controls are in place
  • Oversee a high-quality monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close process.
  • Summarize and articulate monthly financial performance to the business and shareholders; ensure preparation of recurring reports including Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Cash Flow Analysis.
  • Participate in cash flow and sensitivity analysis to evaluate scenarios for cash management optimization.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filing for multiple states.
  • Manage the company’s equity portfolio.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to maintain, track, and plan capital expenditures.
  • Participate in activities related to the proper costing, cost analysis, and calculations of product.
  • Provide assistance in productivity, budget and forecasting measurements, and other longer-term financial projections for senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and tax laws.
  • Participate in special projects and assignments as needed.

Requirements, Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred, but not required.
  • 8-10 years experience in accounting roles or similar field.
  • 3-5 years experience in leadership roles, such as Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager positions.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Experience with financial statement preparation.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/ year-end close process.
  • Strong knowledge of ERP systems, NetSuite preferred but not required.
  • Strong MS Office skills, specifically Excel.
  • Proficiency with e-commerce platforms and inventory management systems is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls.
  • Experience in multi-entity consolidations a plus.
