The Controller will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial operations. You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day responsibilities of our general accounting function, which includes overseeing the monthly close process, review of journal entries, ensuring GAAP compliance, maintaining updated and accurate financial records, vendor/department reporting and supervising the accounting staff. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to contribute to a fast-paced, growing organization. Please note: This is a hybrid position with in office expectations at our Morgan Hill, CA office
You will have the opportunity to:
- Prepare financial statements and disclosures in conformance to US-GAAP
- Coordinate month-end and year-end close activities (i.e. journal entries, account reconciliations, reporting)
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures
- Own any implementation and maintenance of accounting tooling or systems
- Oversee the Accountant who administers the company credit card program and accounts payable
- Oversee quarterly/annual statutory requirements (property tax filings, tax payments, etc.) with support of external CPA
- Maintain effective processes and procedures to ensure accurate accounting & safeguarding of assets
- Provide monthly variance analysis and ad hoc reporting
- Organize financial data into usable information and maintain updated records (i.e. department spending, KPI's, cash flow forecast)
- Manage and coach general accounting staff
- Leverages system and technology knowledge to drive simplification efforts
- Implement new systems, such as a new ERP, billing systems, sales tax collection and remittance, etc.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and sales, to support business objectives, such as expense forecasting
- Prepare for and conduct a formal GAAP audit, working directly with external auditors
We are looking for people who have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification
- Proven experience (5+ years) as an Accounting Manager, Controller or in a similar financial leadership role.
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP principles and regulations
- Working knowledge of accounting software solutions, including QuickBooks
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Netsuite, Sage) is a plus.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Operating with honesty, transparency and a strong sense of personal responsibility
- Motivated by a fast-paced environment and excited by the ever-changing nature of a growing company
- Experience with SAAS companies a plus
- Experience with payment processing accounting a plus
In the United States the range is typically a salary of $150,000 to $200,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. The range provided is Shopmonkey’s reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount will be based on job-related and non-discriminatory factors such as location, experience, training, skills, and abilities.
