Position Summary:
Reporting into the Director of HR Operations, the Compensation Manager is responsible for implementing and managing all global compensation programs, policies and procedures across US and European locations, to align with the firm's goals and competitive practices. This position is also responsible for ensuring that the firm’s compensation programs are consistently administered in compliance with internal policies and government regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages the development, implementation and administration of compensation programs for attorney and business services populations, globally.
- Monitors and evaluates regularly the effectiveness of existing compensation practices and recommends cost-effective changes, consistent with trends and the firm’s long-term goals.
- Responsible for conceptualizing and communicating the overall compensation philosophy, timelines and guiding principles to stakeholders and, managing from beginning to end both, the attorney and business services compensation cycles.
- Defines baseline and compensation pools, analyzes, develops, compiles and effectively presents comprehensive compensation funding models to obtain executive approvals.
- Partners with HR and finance stakeholders to lead and administer annual compensation cycles globally, in a timely manner.
- Supports lock-step attorney compensation cycle, including managing the compensation plan and model, deviation protocols, and the special counsel compensation cycle.
- Provides advice and supports as needed, to managers and practice group directors on pay decisions, policy interpretations, and job pricing and evaluations.
- Oversees the participation in salary surveys for business services employees firmwide, monitors salary survey data and market trends to ensure salary competitiveness, aligning with recruiting and retention strategies.
- Designs creative solutions to specific compensation-related programs and incentive plans.
- Partners with finance to determine and adjust as needed, forecasts and annual fundings (ex: financial planning, baseline methodology).
- Identifies budgetary risks because of market pressures, business performance, etc.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations.
- Leads Compensation projects related to further improvement of firm’s global compensation philosophy. Works closely with the HRIS team to continuously enhanced compensation technology (ex: system configuration, workflows, compensation statements).
Qualifications:
Education: College degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience:
- At least 7 years of work-related experience in Compensation management.
- Experience in managing both attorney and business services employees compensation process in law firm preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and compliance requirements related to employee compensation.
- Strong analytical and actuarial skills. Ability to interpret and communicate data effectively.
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including Excel.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to plan and set priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with attorneys, professional level business services, and peers.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with senior management.
- Ability to act in a professional manner and with a high degree of integrity at all times.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple assignments and work with highly confidential information.
- Must be able to work under pressure with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.

The actual salary offered will be based on a number of factors including but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
New York Salary Range
$155,000—$180,000 USD
