ABOUT THE ROLE
#TakeABite of life outside of your university studies. We're recruiting for a Commercial Sales Intern.
You'll join a line of successful interns that have all been in the same shoes, who walked through the doors of our HQ to gain valuable experience as part of their University Placement year. Some of which have since returned to continue their careers with us.
When: Join us in July 2025 for an epic 12-month journey with our Commercial Sales team.
During your 12-month journey, you'll discover:
- Retail Commercial Sales: How to boost Revenue and Growth across our retail accounts (Tesco, Morrisons, Amazon etc)
- Foodservice Sales: Get an insight into how we partner with world famous food outlet chains from McDonalds to global hotel brands
- Revenue Generation: The core goal to sell products to retailers and distributors, driving revenue through deal negotiation and meeting sales targets.
- Market Expansion: Seek new sales opportunities, customers, and distribution channels to increase product availability.
- Customer Relationships: Build strong bonds with retailers and distributors ensures product visibility and support.
- Data-Driven Decisions: Use data and market research to spot trends, guide strategies, and make informed choices.
- Merchandising and Promotion: Collaborate with marketing for effective in-store displays and promotions.
- Sales Forecasting: Predict demand to avoid stock issues.
- Customer Support: Address enquiries and resolve issues for customer satisfaction.
As an intern, you won't just watch from the sidelines. You'll get hands-on experience, set goals, follow a clear development plan, and chat regularly with your line managers. Plus, you'll build your network inside and outside of McCain, making connections with other interns and professionals across the business.
Our Commercial Sales Placement role will be a generalist role where you will experience a wide variety of experience from all the different commercial teams in our business such as foodservice and retail sales.

• Be currently studying a relevant degree in Business Studies or equivalent.• Full clean driving license. • Have a passion and interest in food. • Be seeking a 12-month placement year to support your degree studies (which will run from July 2025 to June 2026)• Must be available to start early July 2025. • And of course, a love of potatoes!

WHERE YOU'LL WORK
Being in the office every single day is a thing of the past. Here at McCain, we champion hybrid working. This means we don't have a set expectation of exactly when you need to be in the office - however we would like to see you on a weekly basis as that's the best place for us to build and maintain our connections. Our head office (Customer Experience Centre) is on the outskirts of Scarborough - 1.5 hours away from Leeds City Centre, and about an hour from York. We have lots of colleagues who travel to and from our Experience Centre (even if it is just for a good coffee!) and because hybrid really does mean hybrid at McCain, they get the opportunity to collaborate with their colleagues when they're in the office, and balance that with working from home to ensure they get a good life-work balance.
