Job Description
The Commercial Analyst is a key part of the Performance & Expense Management team within Finance that partners and provides financial management supports TAL commercial teams’ enterprise wide and key stakeholder within Dai-ichi Life.
The role has a significant element of stakeholder management, communication of complex business results and the creation of actionable insights. This role will ensure a sustainable framework is maintained maximising operational efficiency and value creation.
The role has a heavy emphasis on continual improvement and performance excellence.
Key Accountabilities:
- Support month end reporting, planning, budgeting, forecasting and other processes as appropriate
- Support delivery in terms of the Framework which governs planning, forecasting, accounting, reporting, and analysis
- Providing support to Executives and Senior leaders to influence and provide direction for the appropriate expense and financial targets and goals for TAL as part of target setting
- Supporting production of reporting against plan which includes productivity and insights.
- Provide commercial insight and advisory on activities and performance using commercial (economic, financial, industry) information to understand the relative vertical business performance
- Supporting financial review meetings, as part of the finance team, with senior leaders to provide analysis, identify performance drivers, risks and opportunities and provide strategies to mitigate the risks as appropriate
- Contributing towards strategy formulation in order to deliver sustainable long term financial performance
- Contributing towards short and long term enterprise planning including stakeholder management during planning cycle, co-ordinating of inputs and aligning vertical business lines to the long term financial plan
- Assisting with ad hoc and recurring report generation, inquiries, presentations and analysis for Executives and the Board or Senior Management
- Influence of teams to realise development and transformation objectives
- Provide coaching and mentoring to co-op students and graduates that operate as part as the Performance and Expense Management team
Qualifications
- Post graduate qualification in Finance or Accounting
- Minimum 2 years relevant experience within finance/insurance industry
- Relevant tertiary degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics/Commerce, or Business.
- Previous experience with Enterprise and BI systems
- Strong analytical skills
- Budgeting, planning & forecasting experience
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Solid relationship / stakeholder management skills
- Excellent financial analytical skills and methodologies
- Excellent communication skills - oral communication, reporting writing and presentation skills
- Strong project management skills and the ability to deliver change and process improvements
- Excellent business partnering skills, working between vertical business line management and actuarial reporting teams
- Strong drive and resilience, professional curiosity & strong problem solving skills
- Enjoy collaborating and leveraging TAL’s supportive culture to continuously grow and develop
Desirable:
- Life insurance experience or knowledge of life insurance practices and metrics
- A member of CA or CPA
- Experience with PeopleSoft, Hyperion other financial reporting tools
- Knowledge of performance excellence techniques and methodologies
