CERTIFIED MEDICATION AIDE JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Certified Medication Aide/Certified Nurse Aide (CMA/CNA) is responsible for the preparation, distribution, and documentation of all medications to patients as assigned. They ensure that all medications are available for distribution following MD orders and that patients receive medications in a timely manner. The CMA/CNA must have excellent communication, organization, and time management skills to ensure the efficient delivery of all medications. Working under the supervision of an RN, they must be able to follow the medication orders and document related activities according to current policies and procedures.
CERTIFIED MEDICATION AIDE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares, administers, and documents regularly prescribed and PRN medications within allotted time frames following safe, established standards
- Ensures that medications are always available for administration as ordered
- Follows all procedures related to ordering, discontinuing, and checking for expired medications
- Monitors and records vital signs of residents as ordered
- Keeps med cart and med room neat and clean
- Delivers care by following Epworth Villa's and Oklahoma’s Standards of Practice for Health Care
- Observes and is alert to each resident’s condition and provides timely reports regarding changes in resident’s behavior, appearance, and physical ability to the charge nurse
CERTIFIED MEDICATION AIDE QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma/GED
- Certifications as a Certified Medication Aide in the state of Oklahoma
- Current CPR/First Aid certification through the American Heart Association
- Must be able to maintain general sanitary/safety practices
- Must have a genuine desire to work with the elderly and/or disabled
- Must have an upbeat and engaging personality
- Must be able to occasionally exert 50 to 100 pounds of force
