The role of Cloud Operations Engineer is multifaceted, combining responsibilities across three distinct areas: cloud operations in AWS, Linux system administration, and application administration. This role requires a broad skill set and the ability to manage a diverse range of tasks.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • AWS Cloud Operations:
    • Implement, and manage AWS cloud infrastructure, including services like EC2, S3, RDS, and VPC.
    • Monitor cloud resources for performance, availability, and security.
    • Implement and manage cloud security measures, including IAM roles and security groups.
    • Automate cloud tasks using AWS CLI, SDKs, or tools like CloudFormation and Terraform.
    • Optimize AWS resource usage and cost management.
    • Ensure compliance with cloud governance and regulatory standards.
  • Linux System Administration:
    • Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers and environments.
    • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues.
    • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access control in Linux environments.
    • Scripting and automation using shell scripts, Python, or other scripting languages.
    • Perform regular system backups and disaster recovery operations.
    • Keep the Linux systems updated with the latest security patches and updates.
  • Application Support:
    • Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot applications like Drupal, CDP etc.
    • Configure and maintain web servers like Apache, Nginx, or similar technologies.
    • Implement and oversee web application security measures.
    • Monitor web application performance, and implement scaling and load balancing strategies.
    • Coordinate with development teams for application updates, deployments, and issue resolution.
    • Manage databases associated with web applications, ensuring their performance and security.

 Additional Responsibilities:

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with development, operations, and IT teams to ensure smooth deployment and operation of applications.
  • Documentation: Document configurations, procedures, and changes in the system and application environments.
  • Continuous Learning and Upgrading Skills: Stay updated with the latest trends and updates in AWS services, Linux administration, and web application technologies.
  • Incident Response and Problem Solving: Respond to and resolve incidents quickly; perform root cause analysis for service interruptions and outages.
  • Performance Tuning: Optimize the performance of AWS resources, Linux systems, and web applications.
