Job Description
As a Cloud FinOps Analyst, you will be at the heart of Verisk Extreme Events' cloud operations, ensuring cost efficiency and financial transparency across our AWS platforms. You will develop and maintain tools, processes, and strategies to monitor and optimize cloud expenditures while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. Your role will empower teams to understand their infrastructure footprints, detect anomalies in consumption, and make data-driven decisions for cost optimization. About the Day-to-Day Responsibilities of the Role:
- Present cloud financial reports and identify cost optimization opportunities.
- Estimate cloud migration costs and provide financial modeling insights.
- Analyze AWS services for cost-saving strategies, including Reserved Instances and Savings Plans.
- Build and refine queries using Athena SQL to provide cost breakdowns by business unit or tag.
- Leverage AWS CLI for metadata analysis and enhanced cost transparency.
- Develop and track KPIs to measure cloud cost efficiency and performance.
- Maintain and improve the AWS Cost and Usage Report (CUR) platform using tools like Athena and Power BI.
- Propose and implement innovative CUR architectures to handle large datasets effectively.
- Educate teams on cloud cost optimization strategies and FinOps best practices.
Qualifications
Required (must-have) qualifications/skills:
- 5+ years of experience with advanced Excel, SQL, and data visualization tools.
- Strong understanding of AWS services and cloud cost management principles.
- Ability to analyze data and metrics to provide actionable business insights.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with AWS CLI and cloud financial tools.
Preferred (nice-to-have) qualifications/skills:
- Experience in Python for data analysis and process automation.
- Familiarity with financial forecasting models and budgeting strategies.
- Knowledge of Athena and Power BI for data querying and visualization.
Desired education and/or certification:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Finance, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Certifications such as AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate.
