Cloud Engineer

About the RoleSWIFT has implemented a state of the art Landing Zone in AWS as well as a full DevOps and Infra-as-code Operating model to enable autonomous devops for Agile app teams with governance at scale. We continue to grow, evolve and scale cloud infra ops as our footprint in the cloud grows, with selected greenfield apps and migration candidates. We are looking to onboard Cloud Automation Engineers in our Cloud Center of Enablement with a passion for building robust, scalable and secure cloud infra solutions delivered as self-service products, and services. Critical success factors in this role are Infra DevOps skills focused on coding for high quality infra automation, intellectual curiosity, willingness and grit to tackle tough problems, learning agility to absorb new tech and put it to use with engineering discipline, and a collaborative mindset. Work-experience in the cloud, or even self-taught, is highly desirable but the Infra DevOps experience as outlined here in an On-Prem environment, when coupled with the other characteristics (you will learn and master cloud infra at scale in the role provided you have Infra devOps and supporting skills).

In this role, you will:

• Define and implement secure, compliant, scalable versions of cloud resources, ensuring they are exposed as internal products or network-based services
• Make cloud products available for self-service via Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform and CloudFormation
• Collaborate with other teams to craft and deploy infrastructure and app deployment pipelines, as well as DevOps tools
• Standardize and automate the onboarding process for app teams into the Landing Zone
• Assist app teams in crafting secure and scalable infrastructure using approved cloud products
• Enable and support app DevOps teams from onboarding to launch
• Deploy and manage central services such as networking using DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code
• Manage and evolve Landing Zone components to provide scalable governance, including Service Control Policies, Permission Sets, Security Controls, and Landing Zone add-ons
• Solve a range of issues across various services and functional areas
• Build and maintain operational tools for deployment, monitoring, and analysis of AWS infrastructure and central services
• Implement automation for cost management, analysis, and reporting

What will make you successful?

We are seeking professionals with:

• A university degree in computer science or a related field
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in cloud infrastructure deployment and automation
• Demonstrable skills in building and maintaining infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Ansible
• Extensive experience in building automation using programming languages such as Python, Java, or Node.js
• Proficiency with Git/BitBucket for code management and Jenkins or other CI/CD platforms for orchestration
• Strong knowledge of Linux, including using it as the foundation for automation and coordinating Linux systems
• Foundational understanding of TCP/IP Networking, IP addressing, and typical protocols
• Working knowledge of load balancing, PKI certificates, and both SQL and NoSQL databases
• The ability to learn and use a wide variety of open-source technologies and tools
• A proactive approach and a sense of ownership, a problem-solving attitude, and a willingness to take on challenging problems
• Collaborative work within a team as well as dedicated initiative

Preferred qualifications:

• Hands-on experience deploying and handling AWS infrastructure using Terraform or CloudFormation through CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with deploying foundational AWS services (e.g., VPC, Subnet, Routes, EC2, EKS, ELB, S3, EBS, RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Cloudwatch, Cloudtrail)
• Experience with AWS IAM, Security Groups, NACLs, KMS, Secret Manager, and SSM
• Good understanding of securing AWS environments and meeting compliance requirements
• Experience in fixing AWS environments
• Experience managing immutable infrastructure setups with EC2 is a plus
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker and experience managing Kubernetes environments is advantageous
• Familiarity with AWS Landing Zone and underlying technology
• Experience with AWS security tools (Guard Duty, Security Hub, Inspector, Config, Access Analyzer, Macie) is a major advantage
