Responsible for providing technical leadership in support of Advocate Health initiatives in cloud computing and automation, with a focus on the design of systems and services that run on cloud platforms. The Cloud Data Architect reports into the Cloud Engineering Department but would be embedded into the data product delivery teams by supporting use cases and sharing best practices. Additionally, the Cloud Data Architect will be responsible for ensuring that critical applications are designed and optimized for high availability and serve the needs of business. This role will be instrumental in enhancing and supporting our Enterprise Cloud Data Warehouse currently on Snowflake.
Major Responsibilities:
- Defines & develops enterprise data architecture concepts and standards leveraging leading architecture practices and Snowflake platform capabilities.
- Implement and drive the adoption of cloud-based analytical platforms at a large scale.
- Drive scope definition, requirements analysis, functional and technical design, application build, product configuration, unit testing, and production deployment.
- Program management experience using formal methodology including Agile, scrum, Waterfall.
- Works with business units to translate business strategy into discrete requirements compatible with current technical architecture.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams, ensuring best practices in platform utilization.
- Supports executive vision for cloud and may oversee aspects of adoption and governance processes.
- Develops and maintains an architectural blueprint and evolutionary roadmap that defines and communicates the strategic direction for modern data platform in support of business and technical strategies.
- Support data product delivery teams in development and delivery of cross functional analytical solutions.
- Implement monitors, alerts, and dashboards for tracking data freshness and platform usage.
- Provide support and technical governance, expertise related to cloud architectures, deployment, and operations.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
Experience Required: Typically requires 7 years of experience in at least two IT disciplines, including technical architecture, application development, database management or operations. Includes 5 years of work experience with cloud platforms, including experience with data modeling, performance optimization, and administration
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Capable of communicating and presenting complex information to technical and non-technical stakeholders, both verbally and in written form.
- Experience with clinical healthcare data is a plus.
- Knowledge of DevOps tool chains and processes.
- Must have experience of Agile development methodologies.
- Knowledge of cloud system engineering principles and considerations.
- Experience with Data Governance and Best Practices (Role Based Access Control, Networking Architectures, Cost Management controls, etc.).
- Experience in SaaS tools like Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, dbt Cloud, FiveTran/HVR, Azure DevOps preferred.
- Must have experience end to end implementation of cloud data warehouse.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL for scripting and building data transformation processes is preferred.
- Extensive understanding of security/compliance requirements as it relates to Cloud services.
- Familiarity with BI tools and technologies for creating reports and dashboards.
