CNA is seeking a Claims Consultant for its Environmental & Mass Tort Team. This role is an individual contributor providing claim oversight and litigation management services relating to CNA's legacy asbestos and pollution claims. Additionally, at times, this role may involve limited direct claim handling. This position requires the candidate to have a lead role in engaging directly with a third-party claim administrator who has assumed the claim handling and other administrative responsibilities for certain liabilities. This individual will assist in the company's day-to-day oversight and overall assessment of these matters and shall be involved in the development of CNA's long-term strategic approach to resolve them within the current reserve. This individual will partner with other CNA business units and be a subject matter expert regarding the loss portfolio transfer agreement and the company's asbestos and pollution exposures.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Oversees claim handling and litigation management for asbestos and pollution claims handled by a third-party claim administrator.
- Seeks to establish greater transparency into the claims and has appropriate involvement in targeted and/or high exposure matters. Is an active voice in influencing outcomes including providing direction to third-party claim administrator as appropriate.
- Becomes a subject matter expert regarding the asbestos and pollution loss portfolio transfer agreement including being an available resource to internal stakeholders.
- Assists in triaging First Notice of Loss.
- Acts as a liaison between CNA and the third-party claim administrator, working to resolve concerns and disputes should they arise.
- Works to build relationships with internal and external business partners in conjunction with executing on goals and priorities.
- Ensures services by third-party claim administrator are performed in accordance with the obligations of the agreement.
- Identifies opportunities for process improvement and enhanced workflows and is an active and engaged participant in progressing initiatives forward.
- Oversees complex claim investigations, including coverage, liability, and damages analyses. Assesses effectiveness of overall claim strategy by analyzing data, monitoring developments, and making inquiries of the third-party claim administrator.
- Takes a lead role in partnering with CNA's Actuarial team to evaluate projected total needed reserves. Demonstrates excellent judgment and knowledge with respect to reserving decisions.
- Tracks, interprets and communicates claim and financial data. Provides clear, concise, and thorough reports on significant developments to senior leadership.
- Becomes proficient in relevant claim systems and applications.
- Monitors emerging trends by remaining current on industry news and developments within functional area of expertise, sharing information with leadership, as well as internal and external business partners as applicable.
- Should the need arise, direct handles a reduced workload of asbestos and pollution claims.
- Contributes to a culture of inclusiveness, teamwork, and employee engagement. Dedicated to continuous professional growth and skill development.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of the claim and litigation management function within an insurance organization, specifically as to long tail/legacy asbestos and/or pollution claims. Has a strong understanding of coverage and liability considerations.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact credibly with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to organize, analyze and understand data.
- Self-motivated with the ability to Independently manage complex projects, keeping leadership involved as necessary.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.

- Ability to evaluate complex claims based on a cost benefit analysis.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree with JD preferred.
- Licensed (or ability to obtain) All Lines Casualty Adjuster.
- Typically a minimum of six years claims experience.

The National base pay range for the Claims Consultant - Environmental and Mass Tort role is $105,000 to $164,000. Salary determinations are based on variousfactors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
I n certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia , California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland , New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $71,000 to $133,000 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
