Project Description
The Equipping Secondary Educators Program Partnership is a sub-activity of the $125 Million Belize Compact, funded by the Millenium Challenge Corporation which aims to address two binding constraints to economic growth and poverty reduction in Belize: (1) low-quality education and (2) high electricity costs. This $23 million Education sub-activity is launched by the Government of Belize, acting through the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA-Belize).
The objective of this Education project is to “equitably increase the number of post-primary graduates with the competencies relevant to labor market demand”, responding to the root cause of low quality of education that has led to a shortage of trained professionals in all industries. The project has three activities: the Transforming Teaching and Learning in Secondary Education, Access to and Progression through Secondary Education, and Training and Transitioning to Work.
Position Description
The COP shall provide overall leadership, strategic vision and direction, program management and oversight, and will serve as principal liaison to the Millennium Challenge Account Belize, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, and all stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education:
A masters degree or higher in a relevant discipline in teacher training, curriculum development, or education administration
Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience implementing complex education programs in developing countries.
- 5 years’ experience leading or managing complex education programs, preferably in teachers’ and school administrators’ training or curriculum revision.
- Demonstrated ability to establish professional relationships and to work collaboratively with host government agencies, donors and civil society.
- A deep understanding of the secondary education landscape in Belize.
- Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to develop and communicate a common vision to diverse partners and foster collaboration across a multi-disciplinary team.
Language:
Fluency in English is required.
