We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Charterer to join our team. The Charterer will be responsible for securing safe, reliable, and cost-effective marine vessels in support of the energy trading business. In this role, you will build and maintain a portfolio of vessels suitable for meeting business demands and maintain contacts to predict business requirements and to develop new opportunities. This includes negotiating and chartering of tanker vessels that adhere to Suncor’s compliance, safety, and vetting standards.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate efforts to support the business requirements, including securing spot, short, and long-term charter marine transportation
- Negotiate the rate and other terms with ship owner directly or via broker
- Provide logistic solution to traders, evaluate the freight and other costs as required
- Provide comments to shipping parts of some trading contracts, including freight assessment, adjustment, operation and demurrage
- Work closely with internal groups such as Legal, Operations, Traders, Risk, and Finance to ensure we successfully achieve business goals in a collaborative manner
- Coordinate with operations to ensure tonnage is optimized with respect to freight costs, minimize demurrage, and ensure timely delivery of cargoes
- Monitor various metrics to analyze performance such as market trends, broker performance, freight costs, and vessel availability
- Maintain various databases and enter deal terms in a timely manner
- Provide shipping market intelligence to trader
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher with a background in Marine Operations field, such as Maritime Business, Maritime Administration, Maritime Logistics, or related would be attractive
- Minimum of 5 years of chartering experience in tanker
- Thorough knowledge of marine transportation and logistics industry
- Familiar with ASBATANKVOYAGE and other multiple forms for Charter Party
- Experience in commercial activities and negotiating agreements
- Knowledge and background of API, pourpoint, flashpoint, viscosity requirements, and other industry standards
- Knowledge of marine operations and safety, with a proven ability to navigate complex environments
- Oversee marine operations with a strong focus on safety and efficiency
- Leverage excellent negotiating skills and analytical abilities to drive informed decisions
- Exhibit strong attention to detail and a bias for action in fast-paced trading environments
- Organize and manage substantial amounts of information effectively
Location and other Key Details:
- You will work out of our Houston office, located on 1200 Smith St Houston
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
