What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?

Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Buyer Position

As a Buyer, you are responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing the procurement of goods and services needed for the operation and maintenance of the pipeline infrastructure and operations. In addition, this position is accountable for executing up to $75MM in annual purchase order strategic spend and requires regular interaction with senior management, functional leaders, district operations, project managers, and subject matter experts as well as third party contractors. This role will ensure alignment with cross-functional stakeholders through an efficient and structured bidding & procurement process for a wide range of materials and services. As a Buyer you will collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely, cost-effective, and quality procurement that meets operational needs while complying with industry regulations and company policies. This is a strategic role within procurement operations as it ensures goods and services are procured in the most efficient way while acquiring them in the most efficient way.

What You Get to Do:

  • Optimizes the creation of purchase orders for goods and services by sourcing through strategic suppliers for pipeline projects and operations.
  • Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to obtain the best possible price, delivery, and commercial terms for materials and services.
  • Strategically evaluates supplier quotes, bids, and vet suppliers to ensure alignment with budgetary constraints and project timelines through analyzing and collaboration with internal stakeholders including senior leadership as appropriate.
  • Ensures that all procurement activities adhere to company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements, including safety, environmental, and quality standards through coordination with engineering, operations, project management, and senior leadership.
  • Resolve issues related to delivery delays, quality control, vendor performance and invoice discrepancies by working closely with relevant departments.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field of study from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.
  • Ideally, 3+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, preferably within the energy, pipeline, construction, or manufacturing industries.
  • The ability to travel as needed, 10% or less, to various work sites, including construction zones and remote locations with occasional field visits to assess materials and supplier facilities.
  • Experience negotiating contracts, managing vendor relationships, and conducting market analysis.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement software (Oracle, or similar platforms) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on cost reduction and process efficiency.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Self-motivated, have a phenomenal work ethic and looking for the right company to support your growth.

  • MBA from an accredited college or university.
  • Understanding of the Pipeline industry is a plus.
  • Oracle Procurement experience.
  • Certifications in procurement, supply chain, or project management; ISCM or APICS certification is a plus.
