General Summary:Business Analyst II - IT are responsible for working with the agile team and the Product Owner to define and document acceptance criteria with little to no oversight and exhibit a mastery of their functional area subject matter expertise and analytical skillset. They ensure the solutions delivered are of high quality by collaborating with their agile team members and by leveraging/using appropriate elicitation/documentation practices for the team. They are active team members who are able to accurately estimate work required to deliver software features. They use innovative and critical thinking skills applied to business process and needs to ensure digital solutions meet business value. The emphasis for this position will be in documenting detailed business requirements for our development and testing team, collaborating with our business partners, and maintaining backlog readiness.
This is a hybrid opportunity requiring two days on-site in one of the following locations: Chattanooga, TN; Columbia, SC; Portland, ME.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Has 4+ years’ experience working as part of an agile team
  • Passionate about the business direction, priorities, results, and customer experience.
  • Clearly demonstrates analytical and critical thinking abilities
  • Takes a logical, analytical approach to problem solving and pays close attention to detail
  • Experience with Agile Development Methodologies
  • Self-motivated and results oriented
  • Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong written communication skills to document and communication requirements
  • Strong team player; able to work effectively within a team and more broadly with people from a variety of backgrounds and areas across the organization.
  • Able to solve complex business problems and drive customer experience and operational efficiency objectives
  • Takes an innovative approach to problem solving
  • IIBA certifications are a plus

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a holistic understanding of the IT Delivery roadmap and track changes to ensure alignment with the backlog tooling, enabling teams to leverage automated roadmaps, status reports, and metrics functionality.
  • Ensure Product or adoption KPIs can be measured and tracked within development and delivery activities, incorporating key data points from the outset of the agile team’s work.
  • Understand client personas and use them to refine work items, fostering shared understanding across the Agile Team of client needs.
  • Ensure the integrity of work items as they are broken down and refined in the product backlog, identifying potential loss of intent or overlooked elements, such as descoping or the need for supplementary requirements gathering.
  • Ensure key information to support PO prioritization is current, accurate, and in a usable format to drive high-quality decisions.
  • Represent functional and non-functional requirements effectively in the product backlog, ensuring appropriate documentation.
  • Ensure product backlog items meet the definition of ready/done in line with enterprise targets, maintaining content quality and data integrity for transparency and effective reporting.
  • Identify and gather relevant data sources to analyze processes impacted by the solutions being created.
  • Determine the most appropriate means of representing business requirements and ensure traceability back to the source (e.g., process mapping tools, Excel).
  • Model behaviors and practices to optimize methodology adoption within the product area, such as Customer Journey, Agile Methodologies, and Program Execution Framework.
  • Continuously improve and add tools to the BA Discipline Toolbox.
  • Mentor peers on business analysis best practices and keep them informed of technical and market advancements.
  • Conduct industry analysis of trends, technologies, and market advancements, applying them in the context of the organization.
  • Ensure documentation and change controls are in place for production deployment activities and the transition to production support teams with the Agile Team.
  • Elicit requirements using appropriate techniques (e.g., personas, user stories, story maps) and work with Product Owners to elaborate on backlog items, including acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to manage and groom the backlog.
  • Lead the definition of user stories with precise agile criteria, ensuring stakeholder and Product Owner intent is captured effectively.
  • Define detailed design and acceptance criteria for user stories on a just-in-time/just-enough basis.
  • Review acceptance criteria with the team to ensure agreement on testability and support continuous integration through automated tests.
  • Collaborate with business partners and the Agile Team to define, coordinate, and sometimes execute Acceptance Testing.
  • Lead Story Decomposition to enable planning at the appropriate granularity for agile approaches and lead process mapping and decomposition.
  • Work with the agile team during planning and interact with the Scrum Master or Team Lead to agree on sprint deliverables post-sprint planning.
  • Provide suggestions for improving business processes within assigned portfolios.
  • Gather requirements for personas of specific user experiences, ensuring excellent user experience delivery with UXD resources.
  • Evaluate native functionality from third-party/cloud solutions, identifying opportunities to meet business needs and performing configurations like page layouts, workflows, and dashboards.
  • May lead internal test execution, including documenting results, managing defects, and troubleshooting testing issues.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure features and solutions meet or exceed Product Owner expectations, contributing to solution design discussions.
  • Keep the agile team updated on project progress by ensuring ALM tools are up to date and participating in daily stand-ups to outline progress, plan next steps, and address impediments.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$73,300.00-$150,500.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.  All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
