Tumblr is looking for a socially savvy Brand Partner who can prospect and pitch new brand partners, nurture and grow existing ones, and consistently achieve revenue targets.
You will be part of a small but mighty team focused on driving direct revenue via advertiser partnerships that leverage Tumblr’s media solutions, Creatrs (artist network), marketing initiatives, and new product offerings (ie. merch, digital goods).
As a consultative seller, you will serve as a subject matter expert on Tumblr for our brand and agency partners. Your knowledge will help create campaigns that generate revenue by tapping the culture, conversations, and creativity unique to Tumblr.
Here are some of the things you’ll get up to:
- Prospect, qualify and close deals from new advertisers. Even with an established book of business, you will still be expected to grow new business.
- Cultivate and strengthen relationships with existing advertisers via consultative sales, exceptional customer service, and ongoing education and promotion of Tumblr’s audience and offerings, leading to renewals, upsells, and expanded opportunities.
- Lead the development of RFP responses and proactive pitches in partnership with Account Management, Creative Services, and other cross-functional partners.
- Maintain familiarity with the Tumblr platform, its evolving consumer and advertiser offerings, and the audiences that drive it.
- Represent Tumblr in the market (online and in-person) as a thought leader and evangelist for our audience and offerings.
- Leverage SalesForce, Slack, and P2’s effectively to manage your pipeline, document campaign executions, and communicate internally.
If the following points resonate with you, we should definitely talk:
- Successful experience in online media sales with a focus on social media.
- Tapped into where internet culture meets digital marketing, and can effectively communicate the unique value of Tumblr to our brand partners and their agencies.
- Deep market knowledge and strong relationships with brands and agencies.
- Always building new relationships and looking for partnerships with new brands and agencies.
- Demonstrable experience in generating new business revenue from advertisers
- and their agencies.
- A $50k deal is great to start off with, but we’re chasing $500k+.
- A natural communicator: in-person, online, and via written words.
- Super comfortable working in a fast-moving and ever-evolving environment.
- Comfortable building creative solutions for clients rather than relying on what’s already out there.
This is a client-facing sales role, so you would be expected to meet with clients regularly. Most of our client base will be based in New York and California. We are prioritizing candidates based in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and California.
Salary range: $100,000-$175,000 USD, plus variable compensation - Please note that salary ranges are global, regardless of location, and we pay in local currency.
We are searching for high-caliber candidates with the skills and qualities to have a net positive for Automattic. Pay will reflect the potential contribution and the impact you can bring, which may, in some cases, go beyond the range stated for the right candidate.

About Automattic
We are the people behind WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Tumblr, Simplenote, Jetpack, Longreads, Day One, Pocket Casts, and more. We believe in making the web a better place.
We’re a distributed company with more than 1700 Automatticians in 92 countries speaking 110+ different languages. And, even more than growth and profitability (although we’re plenty profitable), above all, we’re driven by a mission: We democratize publishing and commerce so anyone with a story can tell it, and anyone with a product can sell it, regardless of income, gender, politics, language, or country.
We believe in Open Source, and the vast majority of our work is available under the GPL.
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion at Automattic
We’re improving diversity in the tech industry. At Automattic, we want people to love their work and show respect and empathy to all. We welcome differences and strive to increase participation from traditionally underrepresented groups. Our DEI committee involves Automatticians across the company and drives grassroots change. For example, this group has helped facilitate private online spaces for affiliated Automatticians to gather and helps run a monthly DEI People Lab series for further learning. DEI is a priority at Automattic, though our dedication influences far more than just Automatticians: We make our products freely available and translate our products into and offer customer support in numerous languages. We require unconscious bias training for our hiring teams and ensure our products are accessible across different bandwidths and devices.
Automattic is a Most Loved Company and Disability Confident Committed. (Here’s what that might mean for you.) Learn more about our dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion and our Employee Resource Groups.
