What You'll Do
In this role, you will provide operational support in the administration of Flatiron's Benefits and Leaves of Absence programs in the US, UK, Germany & Japan, with an emphasis on attracting and retaining employees as part of a holistic employee experience approach. The Benefits and Leaves of Absence Specialist will work in close partnership with the Senior Manager, Benefits and other members of the People Team to execute the delivery of impactful programs to Flatiron employees.
- Respond to Benefits and LOA inquiries through Zendesk tickets, emails and phone calls
- Research and resolve escalated matters regarding eligibility, enrollment, leave entitlement, disability benefits and pay impact leveraging Workday and carrier systems
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, and LOA regulations and entitlements. Complete benefits compliance filings; run reports in Workday and perform audits to ensure operational efficiency of plans and programs
- Provide Benefits and third party LOA administrator vendor management support; Ensures discrepancies/escalations are resolved timely
- Identify opportunities to streamline and document processes and recommend new or improved offerings
- Support annual open enrollment and international contract renewal processes, including Workday configuration and testing and the review and distribution of communication materials
- Participate in open enrollment info sessions and events as needed
- Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Benefits to develop Benefits engagement strategy in support of Flatiron's employee experience
- Develop and maintain employee facing benefits and LOA materials and content
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders such as HRIS, Payroll, Talent Acquisition, Diversity Equity and Inclusion, ERGs and Talent Development to coordinate campaigns, webinars and events
Who You Are
You're a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who values the opportunity to think beyond the way things are. In addition, you're an empathetic communicator with 3+ years experience in a Benefits, Leave of Absence or People Operations Specialist role.
- You have a Bachelor's degree
- You have a basic understanding of benefits plan administration and leave of absence compliance
- You are able to identify gaps in processes and work with cross-functional teams to implement solutions
- You have experience running reports, performing audits and resolving discrepancies between systems and vendors
- You are a strong verbal and written communicator, with the ability to craft messaging that resonates with employees
- You have the ability to exercise sound judgement and work well under pressure to navigate difficult situations with empathy, discretion, and professionalism
- You are kind, collaborative, curious, and eager to learn and share ideas
Extra Credit

- You have exposure to Benefits in the UK, Germany and Japan
Where You'll Work

Preferred Primary Location: Durham hub
The annual pay range reflected above for this position is based on the preferred primary location of the role which is listed in the job description. Salary ranges for other locations vary from the range reflected above. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. An annual bonus and equity may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
