About the Job:

LaunchDarkly is seeking highly skilled and experienced Backend Engineer with a background in experimentation or data-driven products. You will be joining our team of backend, frontend, and fullstack engineers along with multiple product managers, data scientists, and designers, to build an experimentation product that is both powerful for experienced data scientists and accessible to newcomers. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable and performant applications using Go and RESTful APIs. You will play a critical role in delivering high-impact projects, driving technical excellence, and mentoring fellow engineers. You will also be a champion for code quality, observability, and operational excellence.

We are committed to delivering a leading experimentation platform that empowers our customers to run tests and data-driven experiments seamlessly and at scale. We have a robust product roadmap, and we are actively expanding our teams to execute on it.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable and performant solutions for experimentation and data-driven products with a focus on usability and maintainability.

  • Make key architectural decisions considering scalability, performance, and maintainability.

  • Identify and resolve performance and scalability bottlenecks.

  • Partner closely with product managers, other engineers, data scientists, and designers to lead the delivery of business-critical production changes of significant scope.

  • Drive and enforce code quality standards within the team through code reviews and feedback.

  • Enhance code comprehension and reusability across the team.

  • Improve the observability and operability of team services and code.

  • Work directly with customers and our support team to diagnose and resolve production issues.

  • Identify and resolve team misalignments, fostering collaboration and communication.

  • Resolve decisions of feature prioritization, technical design, and product functionality by leveraging a deep understanding of frontend and backend technologies, experimentation platforms, and internal dogfooding.

  • Proactively identify and escalate critical issues before they impact the business.

  • Mentor and guide colleagues, sharing best practices and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Write and review technical proposals, decomposing large projects into iterative releases.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends in software development, experimentation, and data-driven products, and proactively identify and implement improvements to tools, processes, and methodologies.

  • Embrace curiosity and creative problem-solving, maintaining a proactive and positive mindset.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience with a focus on backend development, or equivalent demonstrable skills and experience.

  • Experience building in Go.

  • Extensive experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs.

  • Knowledge of experimentation methodologies (e.g., A/B testing, multivariate testing) and best practices.

  • Deep understanding of software design principles, patterns, and best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver highly scalable and performant systems from inception to completion.

  • Experience with performance tuning and optimization techniques.

  • Strong understanding of observability and monitoring tools and practices.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) is a plus.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor other engineers.

  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation.

  • A passion for writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.

  • A proactive and self-directed approach to work.

  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability.

  • Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Experience working with distributed teams.

About LaunchDarkly:

Modern software delivery was supposed to be the foundation for a thriving digital business but reality has proven otherwise. Slow, inefficient development cycles, costly outages, and fragmented customer experiences are preventing developers from building their best software. The LaunchDarkly platform helps developers innovate on new features faster while protecting them with a safety valve to instantly rewind when things go wrong. Developers can target product experiences to any customer segment and maximize the business impact of every feature. And by gradually rolling out new application components, they escape nightmare "big-bang" technology migrations.

The LaunchDarkly platform was built to guide engineers to the next frontier of DevOps by:

  • Improving the velocity and stability of software releases, without the fear of end customer outages
  • Delivering targeted experiences by easily personalizing features to customer cohorts
  • Maximizing the business impact of every feature through the ability to experiment and optimize
  • Coordinating the release and optimization of software to provide consistent experiences across mobile platforms and device types
  • Improving the effectiveness and productivity of engineering teams, by providing insights into engineering cadence and stability
