Job Description

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Automation Control Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of our automation and control systems. This role is essential for driving manufacturing efficiency and supporting the development and implementation of automation systems across the corporation.

WHEN YOU JOIN US, YOU WILL BE:

  • Provide comprehensive electrical assistance, including troubleshooting and training/coaching electricians and other employees on new or modified systems, based on a fundamental understanding of key systems and processes.

  • Update existing legacy technologies to current standards as required.

  • Stay current with the latest technologies to offer relevant electrical design consultation.

  • Program automation and control systems

  • Improve existing PLC programs, including servo drives and A/C drives, to enhance manufacturing efficiency.

  • Serve as a corporate resource for automation system developments and implementations.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with PLCs, HMIs, servos, VFDs, electrical systems, hydraulics, controls, and pneumatics.

  • Electrical Engineering Technology diploma or a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or has equivalent experience as an Industrial Electrician.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Bilingual in French would be a strong asset.

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting PLC code, schematic wiring, one-line, and P&ID process diagrams.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical standards, including the National Electrical Code and UL508a, and practices safe electrical work, including LOTO and Arc Flash safety (NFPA 70e).

  • Understands Industrial Ethernet Networks and network communication standards.

  • Skilled in using electrical test equipment, including voltmeters, ammeters, process meters, network analyzers, and other testing devices to troubleshoot electrical issues.

  • Knowledgeable about safety systems for plant equipment, such as safety PLCs, E-stops, safety relays, and light curtains.

  • Understands calibration procedures for process instruments that measure temperature, pressure, flow, level, and composition, along with process controls and troubleshooting.
