As an Associate Software Systems Engineer, you will apply software systems engineering skills to multiple projects across the space domain. Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD) staff couple the latest in information system technologies, such as elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks, with expertise in cyber security, software architecture, software engineering, data science, Artificial Intelligence, process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our Intelligence Community, DoD, and civilian customers.
The Software Tools & Assurance Department couples the latest in software technologies - such as cloud, containerization, microservices, and visualization frameworks - with expertise in digital engineering, software architecture, software engineering, process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our IC, DoD, and civilian customers.
Work Model

  • This is a full-time position based in El Segundo, CA, offering a hybrid work model that combines 3 regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow.


What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing software systems engineering skills to space, ground, and launch systems in the national security, civil, and commercial domains.
  • Leveraging a wide range of technical skills to solve complex problems in various software systems domains such as software development; software architectures; enterprise systems; technology recommendations; cloud and virtualization deployments; microservices and API development; and systems modeling.
  • Identifying exciting opportunities for adopting new technologies to solve existing needs, predict future challenges, and modernize the space industry.
  • Driving positive change by introducing new perspectives, challenging established practices, and fostering a culture of innovation within the team.
  • Collaborating with teams across the corporation to develop cross-domain space solutions.
  • Operating strategically through engaging with customers in leveraging the latest technology that provides innovative solutions to their challenging problems in the space arena.


What You Need to be Successful -Member of Technical Staff - Software Architecture & Systems Software Engineering
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM, and/or in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • 2 or more years of experience with increasing responsibility in Software Architecture or Software Engineering
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, and to quickly learn and adapt to new software technologies and languages.
  • Experience in software engineering, full lifecycle development, and advanced problem solving.
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • DODAF and generation of related models and dashboards
    • Data lakes and data pipelining
    • Model-based systems engineering and complex systems modeling
    • AI/ML (LLM, Neural Network, NLP, etc.)
    • Alternative software development methodologies (Agile, DevOps, etc.)
  • Willing to travel occasionally to other domestic work locations or customer sites.
  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.


In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for the Senior Member of the Technical Staff include:

  • 3 -5 years of increasing responsibility in Software Architecture or Software Engineering


How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Master's degree in STEM, or in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • 5 or more years of industry work experience.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in two or more of the following areas, with the ability to independently lead associated tasks:
    • DODAF and generation of related models and dashboards
    • Data lakes and data pipelining
    • Model-based systems engineering and complex systems modeling
    • AI/ML (LLM, Neural Network, NLP, etc.)
    • Alternative software development methodologies (Agile, DevOps, etc.)
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating the ability to clearly convey complex technical information to a wide range of audiences.
  • Bring industry knowledge on agile workflows and rapid prototyping of software tools and processes


We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
