Associate Relational DBA
About the Role:
The candidate will be a member of the the Relational DB management team within Data Management Services (DMS). The primary role for this position will be as an Oracle Database Administrator supporting Canadian and US requirements with current versions of Oracle and PostgreSQL Databases. A minimum of 1 to 3 year of experience in Information Technology is required as well as experience in relational and other database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redshift, Microsoft SQL Server, and MongoDB to be able to support various teams within DMS.
What will you do?
- Provide daily status of overnight turnover report indicating any incidents, database notification warnings and actionable items
- Administrative support of Oracle and PostgreSQL databases including some of its sub-components
- Support with keeping up-to-date documentation and procedures for all supported database related platforms
- Some involvement of Oracle server/instance installs (stand-alone and clustered), service-pack upgrades, hot fixes, readiness programs, new feature exploitation, research and development
- Work with other Database Administrators or Developers in defining requirements
- Look for ways to automate and improve infrastructure as code release processes
- Performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of issues
- Contribute to defining, documenting and implementing consistent standards and procedures
- Contribute ideas for best practice improvements, process improvement, and innovative solutions
- Assist with the implementation of our Security vulnerability tools product, Imperva
- Other duties as assigned
What you need to succeed:
- 1 to 3 years of technical experience working with Oracle hosted on Unix, Linux platforms and AWS
- 1 to 3 years of technical experience working with PostgreSQL hosted on Linux and AWS platforms
- University degree in Computer Science or Information technology
- Knowledge of PLSQL skills including an understanding of system tables, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and SQL tuning
- May participate in database upgrade, cloning, platform migration, installations, and patching
- Some experience with Oracle database monitoring and tuning using native Oracle or other third-party tools
- Knowledge of AWS Cloud computing architecture/design/best practices, and AIX and Linux operating systems
- DevOps automation tooling such as Ansible, Terraform or Continuous Delivery Director is an asset
- Knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager or GRID Control, RMAN backup and recovery strategies, Oracle replication, mirroring, log shipping, maintenance plans and DR recovery strategies
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Willingness to provide occasional on-call support/trouble shooting after-hours and weekend to support production implementations, and DR exercises
- Organizational skills with the ability to handle several tasks efficiently
- Willingness to share ideas and contribute solutions, take initiative and speak up in at team meetings
