Associate Director, Global Foodways, Culture, and Restaurants
Bon Appétit/Epicurious is seeking an Associate Director to lead our Global Foodways/Culture/Restaurants content vertical. This role will manage two direct reports; will be responsible for setting content strategy around their subject area; and will ensure that content is published on a regular basis that achieves the brands’ editorial and business goals. 

The ideal candidate is an exceptional team manager who can balance both the organizational needs of running a content vertical; while also setting and executing on a robust content strategy that provides timely, thoughtful insight and sophisticated analysis on global foodways, culture, and restaurants. They will be responsible for optimizing their content beat for distribution across multiple platforms, including social, newsletters, video, digital, print, and more. They will create editorial content plans informed by data, and use strategic insights to build engagement with audiences in partnership with staff and senior leaders. 
This role reports to the Content Director. This role is in New York and is in-office four days a week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Global Foodways/Culture/Restaurants content vertical, including managing two direct reports (Senior Editor/Writer; Restaurant Editor); setting and executing on content strategy; managing editorial direction of projects and events; and assigning and editing a wide coverage beat for all platforms, including premium enterprise content, service stories, quick-turn responses to current events, social video, and more.

  • Along with editorial leadership and direct reports, lead planning and execution for Global Foodways/Culture/Restaurants tentpole moments and related live events, including Best New Restaurants.

  • Manage Global Foodways/Culture/Restaurants content for newsletters and other subscription products in concert with edit leadership, audience development, and consumer marketing.

  • Cultivate relationships with and manage a diverse cohort of writers and editors.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the brand, other Condé Nast departments, and up and down the masthead in content execution, including editors, the creative team, the test kitchen, audience development, social media, video, and more.

  • Establish a robust content pipeline, enforce deadlines and workflows, and ensure the edit calendar has sufficient Global Foodways/Culture/Restaurants coverage. 

  • Collaborate with edit leadership on long-term brand strategic planning and major initiatives. 

  • Write stories across platforms and content areas, as assigned.

  • Participate in video, social video, podcasts, and special events, as assigned.

  • Represent the brands in media and public appearances as necessary.

You’ll need: 

  • 10 years writing, editing, and producing content at a major publication.

  • Deep experience running a team of direct reports, overseeing their work, guiding their growth and performance, and ensuring deadlines and key objectives are met.

  • Cross-functional collaboration skills with sales, audience, and production staff.  

  • Demonstrated expertise with national and international reporting on dining and foodways.

  • Experience producing content within a multiplatform editorial strategy, including print, newsletters, video, and events. 

  • Strong editorial judgment, writing, and editing skills.

  • Organized, detail-oriented, able to adhere to tight deadlines and balance multiple priorities and projects.

  • Experience incorporating digital best practices including working in content management systems and SEO.

  • Hosting and/or video production experience is a plus.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $100,000-$148,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
