Position Summary
The Associate Cybersecurity Systems Engineering Analyst role provides advanced technical support of Network Defense technologies. The Analyst will aid in the development and execution of Network Defense technologies supporting Enterprise initiatives (i.e., firewalls and CDN/WAF). This role requires the ability to manage multiple projects and engineering requests, including troubleshooting operational and project related issues; network and security technology deployments; and firewall lifecycle management. The Associate Cybersecurity Systems Engineering Analyst will monitor for and support mitigation of cybersecurity events and incidents across the Duke Energy environment. Ideal candidates would have experience working and supporting business partners in a large enterprise environment, a strong understanding of enterprise networks, hands-on experience maintaining and deploying firewall solutions, and relevant industry certifications.
Responsibilities

Support various projects that require Firewall implementation. This includes network and application changes; new network segmentation; firewall lifecycle management; web security; and Cloud firewall engineering.

Monitor system health, respond to customer inquiries, and oversee system management.

Periodically performs firewall rule optimization and reviews.

Manage system including software updates, SSL certificates, and hardware life-cycle.

Works closely with governance groups to meet activities that support various regulatory

requirements.

Assists with managing vendor relationship and manages statement of work engagements with vendor.

Assists with establishing solution roadmap.

Recommends feature adoption as appropriate for enhancement of security or efficiency in managing security assets.

Drives security requirements through the organization.

Participation in 24x7 system environment including on-call rotation periods and nights and weekends as needed.

Provides increased availability during Storm Mode, wide impacting service disruption events (MIs), and security response events.

Adheres to proper Change Management and Human Performance requirements and processes.

Represents IT Security organization professionally in interaction with internal business partners and other IT Support groups.

Responsible for understanding the global threat environment and general security best practices.

Drive continuous improvement of processes and procedures to improve analysis, detection, and mitigation of incidents in support of the overall Cyber Defense mission.

Provide audit support to internal and external groups as required.

Collaborate as appropriate with leadership and other key stakeholders.
Required/Basic Qualifications

High School/GED

2 years minimum related work experience
Preferred Qualifications

CCNA or higher certification
-
Palo Alto PCNSE certifications and other relevant security certifications

Experience in firewall administration
-
Hands on experience working with Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewalls

Network engineering/design/project experience
-
General networking understanding and/or experience to include Understanding of TCP/IP communications & knowledge of how common protocols and applications work at the network level including DNS, DHCP, HTTP, and SMB.

Scripting experience for system automation, maintenance and operations (i.e., Bash and/or Python)

Experience with enterprise security standards/requirements and compliance frameworks such as NERC, SOX, and PCI

Experience supporting large enterprise networks

Experience managing statement of work engagements with vendors

Ability to analyze firewall security and traffic logs

Ability to perform self-directed work

Working Conditions

Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
