Responsibilities

The Department of Political Science seeks to fill a non-tenure track job opening for an Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Full Teaching Professor in U.S. politics, with an emphasis on U.S. institutions, federalism, urban politics, and quantitative techniques. The Department serves a robust undergraduate population, both its own majors and from across the university, and graduate students in its MA and PhD programs.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level in U.S. national politics, federalism, state and local politics, urban politics, and quantitative techniques. Expertise in particular policy domains (e.g., education, health, social welfare policy) a plus. Experience in experiential learning is welcome. While the need to teach the occasional course via online modalities exists, the position is in residence at Northeastern’s Boston campus.

Teaching faculty positions carry a 3:3 teaching load. Opportunities for summer teaching for additional compensation are available. The successful candidate will also contribute to student advising and other departmental service responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Political Science or related fields in hand by the employment start date is required.

  • Candidates should provide evidence of teaching excellence, including student evaluations and sample course materials.

  • Candidates should have demonstrated commitment to promoting experiential learning, which is central to a Northeastern University education.
