Job Description

The Washington Post has an immediate opening for an assistant systems editor to join our Newsroom Logistics team on a five-month contract.  We are looking for someone who has a high comfort level with technology, enjoys the challenge of troubleshooting problems, understands the needs of a 24/7 newsroom and is calm under pressure.  
 
The Newsroom Logistics team supports Post journalists with equipment, security and technical issues. Candidates who are enthusiastic about the mission of journalism and have a baseline level of knowledge aboutthe news-gathering process are particularly encouraged to apply.  

   

Responsibilities:  

  • Solve urgent technology challenges for reporters and editors working on complex stories under strict deadlines.  

  • Troubleshoot issues with laptops or mobile devices. 

  • Set up workstations and equipment for newly hired journalists. 

  • Train newsroom staff on devices or software. 

  

Preferred Qualifications & Experience: 

  • A working knowledge of mobile deviceandlaptop technology (both Mac and Windows machines) is required. 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, Adobe products and Slack is required. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

This position is based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom.

The pay range for this temporary contract role is between $6,000.00 and $8,500.00 USD per month. The actual monthly rate of pay within this range will depend on individual skills, experience and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
