Job Description
The key responsibilities for this position are:
- The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing safety policies and procedures, conducting safety inspections, and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations
- Supervising and ensuring compliance with the SMS of the ship and its every aspect including the updates and amendments which involve liaising with the Skipper and the company safety representative.
- Enhancing the awareness with respect to the safety onboard and thereby taking substantial steps for enhancing the safety
- Ensuring the crew always carries their jobs with a safety-conscious attitude and know all the aspects of IMS code and relevant health and safety regulations
- Imparting training to the shipboard personnel if need be so that they may be kept updated with all the latest improvements and at the same time inform them of any deficiencies that might need to be addressed. (Keep all the records available for trainings and safety inspections and actions taken to be provided when any audits happening in the company)
- To look after and act on the complaints of the crew related to health and safety
- To provide information to Boat Skippers regarding the deficiencies and to approach Boat Skippers for removal of any potential hazard from the ship which may lead to an accident.
- If there is an accident involved should lead the investigation and prepare a report
- To maintain the records all major and minor accidents
- To make sure that all equipment associated with the ISM Code and the SMS are tested, maintained and calibrated accordingly.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in marine safety management.
- Strong knowledge of international maritime regulations and safety standards.
- Experience conducting safety inspections and audits.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality assurance.
- Certification in relevant safety courses is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Tankers or COC in tanker is preferred.
