About Campus Activities
The Campus Activities department significantly impacts the student experience for a campus of approximately 50,000 students. Campus Activities’ mission is to build community and foster leadership development through co-curricular opportunities that enhance the Trojan experience. The department is responsible for the key functional areas of Recognized Student Organization support and services, Student Government advisement and support, campus-wide student programming, and leadership of the Trojan Welcome Experience programming and planning. In collaboration with their direct reports, the Assistant Director coordinates, oversees, and implements support and resources for the USC undergraduate and graduate student government bodies.
About the Opportunity
The Assistant Director for Student Government in Campus Activities is a key leader within USC Student Life and the university. The Assistant Director assists their team with coordinating, designing, and delivering department policies and services focused on Student Government operations. This includes:
· policies and procedures for student government operations,
· financial support and management,
· event coordination oversight,
· student leadership advisement,
· student government risk management and compliance.
The incumbent identifies student needs and develops and designs workshops, seminars, and educational services to assist students in navigating university processes and procedures. The Assistant Director is responsible for building strong relationships with the campus and community partners and serves as the connection between the department, student government, and campus partners on event coordination, compliance, funding, advocacy, and programming.
Responsibilities include:
· Direct recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision of 4 FTE and indirect supervision of graduate and undergraduate student workers
· The Assistant Director provides the team with leadership training, educational workshops, and opportunities for collaboration.
· Provide primary oversight and leadership for USC Student Government
· Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to all student government officers and programming boards directly and indirectly through advising, coaching, role-modeling, and active engagement
· Establish great relationships with student government leaders, providing sound counsel on policies and procedures, conflict resolution, and effectively navigating university politics
· Manage student government groups' budget allocations, expenses, reconciliation, and financial process; actively partner with campus financial services
· Develop department policies and procedures for student government operations and work to ensure compliance with university expectations
· Plan and implement student government training, retreats, and workshops
· Assist with the management, oversight, and execution of student government elections and recruitment
· Edit, process, and set up contracts and agreements on behalf of the student government for its events and other operations.
· Work with Student Life, EEOTIX, OCE, Risk Management, and OCEC on University policies and compliance involving student government groups
· Partner with the director to assist with long-term planning, goal setting, and policy development for the department
· Support the university, division, and department initiatives.
· It is important to know this position will require evening and weekend hours, including student government meetings, leadership retreats, and the support of large departmental programs. Flex hours will be used to maintain a balanced schedule

Characteristics of the Successful Candidate
· Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
· Student-centered practices: genuinely cares about students, intentionally looks for ways to involve students in decision-making, attends student events, and maintains a style and office that is open and approachable
· Familiarity with student government structures and procedures.
· Experience in event planning, project management, and risk assessment and compliance
· Strong administrative skills and the ability to prioritize work
Minimum qualifications:
· Master's degree in Higher Education Administration or related field,
· 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in a college or university student life department; 5-7 years is preferred.
The annual base salary range for this position is $83,000-86,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer alignment, federal, state and local laws.
