Summary:
The Assistant Director of Enterprise Risk Governance will develop and implement frameworks, processes, tools, and training to support the development, maintenance, governance, awareness and alignment of the ERM framework. They will collaborate with Enterprise Risk Management & Resiliency (ERMR) leaders to ensure completeness and cohesion of the framework, and act as a liaison with stakeholders and managing strategic partnerships. This role involves leading project/program management efforts to identify gaps, best practices, and proactive solutions to business challenges. The Assistant Director will anticipate, identify, and resolve complex business problems affecting multiple functions that impact the entire organization.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and delivers frameworks, policies, processes, tools and training to support the development, maintenance, governance, awareness and alignment of the ERM framework, and to drive alignment with functional and broader strategic goals and priorities, including the enterprise risk operating model, enterprise risk policy, risk taxonomy, risk appetite, tolerances, and metrics.
- Works across the enterprise to build alignment with strategic partners and leads efforts to build aligned programs and execution models and to ensure coordinated delivery of the ERM framework and governance. Leads efforts to gather and synthesize input/feedback from risk partners, prioritize this input/feedback and communicate it effectively stakeholders.
- Responsible for the identification and management of interdependencies with cross-departmental risk partners and coordination with other initiative owners.
- Supports ERMR as the liaison to stakeholder groups across the business areas and represents department on key projects.
- Analyzes and communicates impactful risk and governance data to influence action throughout the stakeholder group.
- Facilitates ERMR department operations, including annual planning, ongoing prioritization, budget, and other efforts as required. Assists in program management of the Enterprise Risk transformation and provides guidance to associated project teams.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years' progressive experience in risk management, audit, or compliance.
- Experience with enterprise risk management concepts such as risk taxonomy, risk appetite, and risk scoring strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of NM's existing organization, governance structure, culture preferred.
Required competencies include:
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to understand the Company's strategic direction and the connection between strategy and risk management.
- Innovation / Transformation: Must be able to operate effectively within, and contribute to, a culture of innovation. Ability to think creatively and identify opportunities to redesign existing processes and/or develop new processes to facilitate transformation within ERMR and the Company.
- Policy & Procedure: Ability to analyze current enterprise risk policies and procedures, identify gaps and areas for improvement, and develop and implement new policies and procedures, grounded in an understanding of industry best practice and trends, regulatory requirements, and NM's risk profile, structure, and culture. Prepares written documentation with a high focus on clarity, effective communication and quality.
- Leadership & Communications: Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including effective decision making, consultation, and communication (written and oral, with ability to present effectively to a variety of audiences), and NM enterprise savvy to navigate, influence and inform multiple key internal stakeholders.
- Advisor: Trusted advisor and builder of strong, collaborative relationships with key business and risk partners to align and deliver on cross functional, enterprise solutions.
- Enterprise Acumen: Strong finance, planning, strategy, and operations skills, including the ability to understand how initiatives drive business outcomes and drive work through the processes and procedures within NM to ensure leadership buy-in and execution quality.
