Swarmbotics AI is a low-cost, swarm robotics company for industry and defense. We see a world of ubiquitous low-cost robots transforming almost all aspects of society, but we see an urgent need in the defense industry. We focus on building swarms of robots that incorporate a low-cost BOM, an autonomous stack optimized for off the shelf components, and a global planner that enables swarm capabilities for groups of robots to accomplish sophisticated tasks.
Our first product is a defense application building Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs), collectively termed - Attritable, Networked, Tactical Swarm (ANTS). Each UGV in ANTS is an independently-tasked, attritable robot designed for on-demand and autonomous mobility. When operating as a swarm, ANTS is capable of executing more advanced and coordinated, high-level capabilities across a battlespace. ANTS will help solve some of the DoD’s biggest problems that will save lives and increase defense capabilities.
Position Description
Swarmbotics is seeking an experienced Android Developer to join our mobile development team, building mission-critical command-and-control interfaces for ground robot swarms. This role will focus on developing and maintaining Android plugins for ATAK (Android Team Awareness Kit) - a tactical situational awareness and mapping platform used by military and first responders. The ideal candidate will combine strong Android expertise with an ability to architect real-time operational interfaces and deliver reliable user experiences in dynamic environments.
Required qualifications
* 2+ years of Android development experience with a focus on real-time or interactive applications
* Extensive knowledge of modern Android architecture patterns and development best practices
* Proficiency with Kotlin, including flows, coroutines, and async programming
* Experience implementing complex UI systems using both Jetpack Compose and the legacy View system, with a focus on real-time interfaces
* Experience with dependency injection frameworks (Dagger)
* Experience with real-time data management and streaming architectures
* Experience with video processing and streaming in Android applications
* Comfortable working with the Gradle build system, including module configuration and build customization
* Experience working in cross-functional teams and communicating technical decisions to stakeholders
* Comfort working in the high-paced, fluid environment of a tech startup
* Ability to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance
* Ability to relocate to Phoenix, AZ
Preferred qualifications
* Experience developing plugins for ATAK (Android Team Awareness Kit)
* Background in implementing map-based features and interactive overlays
* Understanding of the Cursor on Target (CoT) protocol and TAK data synchronization
* Experience with TAK Server integration
* Knowledge of military terminology and operational environments
* Experience with field testing, deployment, and certification processes for mobile applications
* Background in UX/UI design and familiarity with design tools (e.g., Figma)
* Background in game development or other interactive software systems
* BS in Computer Science or related field
