PeopleCert is looking for an Android developer responsible for the development and maintenance of native applications, aimed at a range of Android devices and their integration with our back-end services. You will be working alongside other teams on different layers of the infrastructure. Therefore, a commitment to collaborative problem solving, sophisticated design, and the creation of quality products is essential.  

As an Android Developer your tasks will include the following:

• Develop new and maintain published native Android applications linked with the company’s portal; 
• Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the application; 
• Perform unit tests and preliminary debugging to ensure that the programs work according to specifications.  
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as analysts, developers and the software quality assurance team; 
• Perform research on new technologies, tools and solutions; 
• Act as second level of support for production systems users, resolving complex technical issues; 
• Mentor and guide junior developers, fostering a collaborative and learning-focused environment.

What we look for:

• Academic background in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related fields;  
• Strong knowledge of Android SDK and different versions of Android, with a solid understanding of Android development guidelines; 
• Affiliated work experience on Android projects, with a proven track record of publishing business Android apps;  
• Solid understanding of the full mobile development life cycle; 
• Experience with HTTP, JSON and RESTful and/or SOAP Web Services; 
• Experience with local data caching, threading and multitasking;  
• Familiarity with cloud message APIs and push notifications. 
• Experience working with source control systems, such as Git, and writing unit and integration tests; 
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, international environment; 
• Excellent problem-solving skills and intrinsic motivation;  
• Ability to deliver qualitative results, enhancing best practices across the team and organization.

Working on Home Office (HO) Secure English Language Tests (SELTs)

Any person who is engaged by PeopleCert to work on the SELT service must undergo a Background Check (the results of which must be acceptable to PeopleCert and the HO) prior to commencing their SELT duties. All SELT personnel will be required to complete a declaration (provided by PeopleCert) where the existence of any criminal record and/or bankruptcy must be declared.

If working on the SELT service in the UK, background checks will include:

• A basic or enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check

• Right to Work in the UK check (including nationality, identity and place of residence)

• HO security check (Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) or Counter Terrorist Check (CTC)

• Financial background check

• Employment reference check.

• If working on the SELT service anywhere in the world (outside of the UK) personnel will undergo background checks that are equivalent to those stated for the UK.

In addition, if personnel are required to speak to SELT candidates they must be appropriately skilled in English language and, where SELT services are provided anywhere in the world (outside of the UK), the official language of the relevant country.
