About the team and the role:

eBay is seeking a dedicated, team-oriented, and highly skilled Leader of AI Engineering & Operations to drive innovation and operational excellence in our Core AI division. This role offers the opportunity to lead a high-impact team at one of the most established and highly trafficked ecommerce platforms in the world!

As a leader, you will guide a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists in developing, deploying, and maintaining innovative AI solutions. Your work will span the entire lifecycle of AI/ML models and applications, from initial design and development to production deployment and optimization, ensuring seamless integration into customer-facing experiences.

You will collaborate across domains to deliver AI-driven solutions that delight customers and enable scalable innovation throughout the organization. Your role also involves fostering a culture of operational excellence, evangelizing standard processes, and pushing the boundaries of what AI can achieve.

Our platforms process billions of requests per day, using brand new technologies, including GPUs, to power the backbone of numerous AI-powered experiences. We thrive on challenging conventions, embracing the latest tools and technologies, and enabling transformative solutions at scale.

What you will accomplish:

• Strategic Leadership: Define and implement the vision and roadmap for AI Engineering & Operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and the broader AI strategy.

• System Design and Deployment: Drive the development and maintenance of scalable, resilient, and efficient AI systems, ensuring operational excellence across the entire lifecycle.

• Operational Automation and Optimization: Lead the adoption of automation and standard processes to enhance system reliability, scalability, and performance.

• Collaboration and Empowerment: Build strong partnerships across teams, fostering a culture of shared ownership, transparency, and innovation in delivering AI-driven solutions.

• Team Leadership: Cultivate a high-performing, multidisciplinary team by empowering individuals, optimizing roles, and fostering a collaborative environment for growth and innovation.

• Continuous Improvement: Champion the implementation of advanced tools, frameworks, and operational practices to ensure systems remain innovative and resilient.

What you will bring:

AI/ML Engineering

• Expertise in operationalizing, optimizing, and deploying AI models and applications.

• Deep understanding of AI systems, encompassing both model development and the integration of AI-driven applications into production environments.

• Experience with model lifecycle management, including training, validation, deployment, monitoring, and updates.

Pipeline Development & Automation:

• Proficiency in designing robust AI pipelines and integrating services and vector stores.

• Experience in automating workflows and implementing self-healing systems.

DevOps & Infrastructure:

• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code (IaC).

• Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools.

• Proven ability to manage containerized environments and cloud platforms.

Operational Excellence:

• Skills in system performance optimization, incident management, and root cause analysis.

• Experience in designing reusable operational frameworks and tools.

Leadership & Collaboration:

• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.

• Proven track record of working with multi-functional teams to deliver sophisticated solutions.
