AI & Automation Strategy Internship

About Obligo

Obligo supports and builds trust between landlords and renters by developing financial technology to support the lifecycle of the landlord-tenant relationship. Property owners and managers use Obligo to streamline their operations, more easily comply with changing regulations, and make their listings more appealing to renters.

Role Summary

As an AI & Automation Intern, you’ll work to improve the accuracy and speed with which Obligo delivers customer support. You’ll work cross-functionally with Product, R&D, Data, and Customer Operations teams to scope and propose project plans focusing on: optimizing our current AI tools, automating quality assurance processes, and expanding our AI capabilities to new user groups and communication channels. Your work will directly enhance support efficiency and help scale our service operations to meet the needs of a growing customer base.

Over the course of the internship, you’ll spend the first few weeks ramping up and getting to know Obligo’s products and systems, followed by hands-on design and testing of your proposed solutions. As the program wraps up, you’ll finalize your projects, present your findings, and ensure a smooth transition of ownership to the full-time team.

We’re looking for someone curious, resourceful, and excited to take ownership. You don’t need to be an AI expert—but you should be eager to learn, experiment, and improve real systems that impact thousands of users.

Responsibilities

  • Quickly familiarize yourself with Obligo's product suite and the range of tools and platforms used by the support team.
  • Analyze customer conversations and internal processes to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for automation.
  • Design and implement improvements to AI tools and workflows to improve the efficiency and accuracy of customer support.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve customer classification and data availability in Intercom.
  • Quantify the potential impact of new initiatives and create actionable project plans to submit to leadership.
  • Own the documentation and knowledge transfer of any solutions you build, ensuring they can be maintained and scaled by the full-time team.
  • Present your findings, recommendations, and progress updates to leadership in a clear, compelling way.

Requirements and Skills

  • Currently pursuing a full-time MBA or graduate degree in Business, Data Science, Computer Science, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with a passion for improving systems and user experiences.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and skilled at using data to drive strategy and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills—able to surface insights, build compelling narratives, and communicate cross-functionally.
  • Experience working with product and engineering teams, and translating business needs into actionable solutions.
  • Comfortable using AI tools, BI platforms, or logic-based systems (e.g., workflows, tagging logic, lightweight scripts).
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with strong time management across multiple priorities.
  • Able to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information, including proprietary systems and data.
  • Ability to work in our NYC office at least two days per week.
