Company Description

Here at Volocopter, we are the pioneers of electric air taxis (electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft - eVTOLs). We have pledged to bring sustainable urban air mobility to life by getting electric air taxis off the ground in a way that complements existing transportation options in megacities across the globe. In 2011 we carried out the first-ever crewed flight of a fully electric multicopter and have since conducted more than 2,000 public and private test flights across the world (www.volocopter.com).

Job Description

Your mission during this flight:

As an Aeroelasticity Engineer in Flight Science, you will ensure that the aircraft design presents healthy dynamic characteristics such as aeroelastic stability and acceptable levels of dynamic loads and vibration.

  • You will perform aeroelastic stability analysis (flutter, whirl-flutter, divergence)
  • You will perform aeroservoelastic stability analysis (open and closed-loop)
  • You will perform dynamic response analysis (dynamic loads and vibration, in frequency and time domain)
  • You will develop and validate dynamic models, tools, and processes (airframe, rotors, unsteady aerodynamics, control system)
  • You will integrate system models into the dynamic analyses process (including identification and linearization)
  • You will specifically assist and examine ground and flight tests (ground vibration test, loads calibration, loads survey, flutter test, vibration survey)
  • You will perform data analysis to generate aircraft vibration information
  • You will prepare and review certification documents (certification plans, analysis reports, test proposals/results)
  • You will participate actively with other teams to provide aircraft level aeroelasticity information

Qualifications

Check in your professional skills:

  • Mechanical, Control, or Aerospace Engineering degree (MSc, Ph.D.)
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience in aeroelasticity and structural dynamics
  • Demonstrated experience with dynamic analysis FEM tools (Nastran, Femap, Patran, HyperWorks)
  • Assured knowledge in simulation and data analysis tools (Matlab, Python)
  • Previous involvement in the certification process and applicable requirements

Preferred skills:

  • Previous involvement in ground and flight tests
