The Role
GM Global Advanced Vehicle Performance Manager. Work with program team leadership and the advanced performance integration team to define vehicle technical specifications and select content which achieve winning vehicles. Provide technical leadership in the roll down of Vehicle Technical Specifications (VTS) into integrated content requirements and subsystem specs. Work with Advanced Vehicle Development leadership to develop and assess new vehicle and subsystem concepts. Establish processes to ensure vehicle performance deliverables are on-time with high quality.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
- Lead the Advanced Vehicle Performance Integration Team (AVPIT) to define vehicle technical specs, identify required vehicle content and integrate SSTS to meet the VTS.
- Understand the performance wants and needs of the customer and represent these in program development target setting process.
- Lead the target setting Knothole Ride process to obtain senior leadership direction for program performance targets.
- Benchmark competitors and anticipate future trends to ensure VTS are targeted to beat future competitors.
- Generate and confirm critical requirements for new Architectures by ACC
- Leverage virtual tools in support of early requirements scoping (eMDO)
- Produce VTS on-time and with fidelity
- Provide total vehicle technical guidance and coaching for AVPIT team to support resolution of integration issues.
- Champion issue escalation within Vehicle Performance
- Tactical collaboration with Design, SMT's and Program Teams to produce DFP's on-time and with fidelity that supports the VTS.
- Strategic collaboration with Design, SMT's and Program Teams to identify and implement productivity initiatives.
- Lead the process for advanced vehicle performance integration. Ensure timely completion of GVDP performance deliverables. Support GVDP team initiatives to revise and improve the GVDP process.
- Accountability to verify concept will meet requirements by DSI leveraging Coarse Balance Engineering Solution GVDP deliverable
- Support closed loop learnings through VDC
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor of Science Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science
- 5+ years of engineering experience in a related field
- DRE/SMT experience
- Vehicle Performance Engineering experience (or equivalent)
- Lead Development Engineer (or equivalent experience). Preferred through launch of an Architecture/Major program
- Extensive experience on how to evaluate a car or truck and provide total vehicle direction with priority to vehicle performance team to meet overall vehicle performance requirements
- Knowledge of the various suspension systems, powertrain mounting systems, body construction types, acoustic systems, powertrain systems used in the industry and their inherent capabilities and limitations
- Extensive experience with math tools and understanding of how analysis results translate into objective and subjective vehicle performance
- Knowledge of Industry trends in performance and leading-edge technology
- In-depth understanding of customer wants and needs, and how to translate those into engineering metrics
- Exceptional cross-functional communication skills - capability to articulate complex issues to enable world class designs, packaging efficiency and vehicle integration
- Demonstrated ability to work with and communicate with other Global development Centers and ability to travel globally as required
- Consistent collaboration of Global teamwork and critical issue resolution
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Master of Science - Engineering
- 8+ years of engineering experience in a related field
- DFSS Black belt
- Demonstrated ability of dealing with ambiguity to enable timely decision making
- Ability to manage a multitude of assignments, programs, and strategic initiatives with high levels of composure and effective implementation
