The Role
The Honest Company has kicked off a search for an Accounting Manager! We’re looking for a highly-organized, accountable (pun intended) team player who operates with efficiency, urgency, and discipline. This role is a great opportunity for current Senior Accountants with leadership ambitions to step into a management role with guidance and support.
What you’ll do:
- Direct and oversee all accounting, reporting and analysis related to inventory, gross margin, and weighted average costs
- Prepare and review monthly journal entries related to inventory and cost of goods sold, accruals for inventory in transit and amortization of capitalized overhead
- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams like operations, logistics, sourcing, and sales to ensure accurate financial reporting
- In conjunction with the monthly financial close, ensure that inventory is properly valued and appropriately reserved under US GAAP (including an evaluation of slow moving, excess and obsolete inventories), liabilities related to inventory purchases are properly stated, gross margins are accurate and any significant variances between budgeted and actual margins are investigated and explained to management
- Provide support in other general accounting areas as needed, including prepaid expenses, accruals, and other GL responsibilities to ensure overall accuracy and completeness of the financial statements
- Support quarterly reviews and year-end audit by preparing schedules that support capitalized overhead and excess and obsolescence reserves
- Participate in month-end close deliverables and coordinate with Finance team on variance analysis
- Act as primary finance liaison in physical inventory counts, review monthly cycle count results, and investigate variances as needed
- Prepare and/or review monthly reconciliations for all inventory related accounts
- Oversee work of Staff Accountants and Senior Accountants to ensure close and audit timelines are met
- Work with team to identify and create efficiencies in general accounting functions
- Document key controls and processes and work with SOX team to perform periodic testing of inventory transactions
- Create and/or prepare ad hoc reports for senior management
- Manage and prioritize job tasks in order to meet strict deadlines
- Encourage a teamwork mentality and establish individual goals/objectives
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or finance
- 6+ years of accounting experience
- Experience leading or mentoring others (formal supervisory experience a plus but not required)
- Solid understanding of US GAAP, general accounting processes and internal controls, and financial analysis tools and techniques
- Proficient in Excel formulas and pivot tables; and experience with top tier ERP and related reporting applications
- Advanced analytical problem solving skills
- Strong team player who works well in a in a fast paced, changing environment
Bonus points for:
- Public accounting experience
- CPA (or working towards it) is strongly preferred
- Experience in a public company environment
- Experience with JD Edwards
- Supervisory experience
Compensation
The pay range for this role is $122,000 - $152,000. Actual compensation is based on many factors including but not limited to depth of experience, skill level, ability, knowledge, education, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
The total rewards package for this position may also include base, annual incentive plan, benefits, retirement plan, equity, and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
