Job Description:
Ensures financial accounting and reporting is in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles; maintains a strong system of internal controls; hires, trains, develops and retains competent personnel; and provides excellent services to customers.
Responsible for the full accounting operations at a facility or division level or responsible for one or more accounting functions that support a region or the entire health system.
- Ensures the financial statements are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Serves as a consultant to management and direct reports regarding application of GAAP.
- Develops and ensures a strong system of internal controls (within area of accountability) to protect company assets. Provides internal control expertise in other areas as needed or directed.
- Oversees accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, fixed assets, month-end closing and financial statements, reconciliations, journal entries, training, etc for a facility/division. May oversee one accounting function that supports the entire health system.
- Accountable for quality, accuracy, and process improvement in all work.
- Collaborates with facility/division administration and department managers to support company and facility initiatives. Provides education regarding accounting issues.
- Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the interrelationship of finance areas within the facility and system-wide finance functions.
- May participate in and be accountable for system-wide projects, including overseeing development of policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Directly supervises, coaches, and mentors other professionals and staff who are involved in the accounting process.
- Utilizes effective leadership skills to remove barriers to productivity and effectiveness. Provides timely recognition and constructive feedback to help staff improve, increase technical and interpersonal skills. Sets meaningful goals to meet or exceed customer expectations, improves accounting processes and prepares staff for greater responsibilities.
- May participate and be accountable for any of the following: Reporting for sponsored activities, meeting federal guidelines, and other regulatory requirements; overseeing and managing internal and external audits (e.g., A-133 audit); system-wide payroll processing and controls (e.g., within the Corporate Accounting Dept.).
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related finance field with seven years of experience. - Or - Master's degree in accounting or related finance field with five years of experience. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities in a team environment and ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Direct supervisory experience, with demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Demonstrated self-motivated with the ability to work with limited direct supervision.
- Demonstrated detail oriented with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills (both written and oral) with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated computer literacy including: spreadsheets, word processing, querying, and web-based applications.
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptable to change.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA
- Masters of Accountancy
- Certified Public Accountant
- Database knowledge
- Working knowledge of Intermountain's accounting information systems and financial processes
Physical Requirements:
- Interact with others requiring the employee to communicate information.
- Operate computers and other office equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
- See and read computer monitors and documents.
- Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
