Accounting Manager Japan

Role Overview:

As a Senior member of the accounting team, and reporting into the International Controller in Ireland, you will play a critical role in the accounting organisation, with responsibility for the oversight, review and approval of the local account preparation, financial statement preparation, tax and compliance for Japan. You will have a strong technical background in accounting and tax, and fluent Japanese and English. You are experienced in working with auditors and tax consultants, and other external providers, as well as working in a multinational, matrixed organization. You love getting involved in global, cross functional projects that are of benefit to the overall accounting organisation, and you are enthusiastic about embracing new technologies and systems. This is a remote/hybrid position in Japan. We will only consider candidates currently in Japan and are not offering relocation assistance at this time.

About the role:

• Responsible for the preparation of local accounts and supporting local statutory audit for Japan
• Review of US GAAP accounts, preparation of US GAAP to Local Statutory bridge files on timely basis
• Liaising with 3rd party providers
• Responsible for the preparation of Japan with the audit teams
• Responsible for corporate and other Japan local tax preparation and filling
• Support treasury function
• Work with local management leaders to support from a point of Finance/Accounting/Tax view
• Management of one revenue accountant with a direct reporting line to the Revenue US function
• Working with interdepartmental collogues: Revenue, Tax, Legal, Payroll and Corporate Accounting for example, to collect the necessary data to complete the management accounts/financial statements by the required deadlines.
• Preparation of journals and liaison with corporate accounting and the SSC at month, quarterly and year-end for assigned EMEA entities.
• Assistance to SSC for Fixed Assets, AP, AR, Purchasing queries / ad hoc tasks
• Responsible for all other document filling submissions
• Contribute to ad hoc projects as they arise

About you: 

• You have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form good working relationships at various and multiple levels throughout an organization
• You are fluent in Japanese and English with high proficiency in writing and facilitating small group communications.
• You thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
• You are self-motivated and driven to achieve tight deadlines and can prioritize well
• You are a problem-solver, solutions-focused and you work on your own initiative
• You are a qualified accountant preferably Big 4, with at least 4-years post-qualification experience in either an audit firm working on multinational assignments, or within the accounting team of a large US multinational
• You have managerial experience of at least 2 years
• You have a passion for the technical nuances of accounting and keep yourself up to date in new developments in Accounting Standards
• You are experienced with accounting system
• You understand have experience with a highly matrixed organization
