Brown & Brown’s Risk Solutions team, formerly known as Beecher Carlson, is looking for an Accounting Coordinator to join the team in Youngstown, OH or remotely.
The Accounting Coordinator will be responsible for all phases of the Surplus Lines Tax and Filing processes.
Responsibilities:
- Research existing regulations and create company-wide policies to ensure a smooth surplus lines tax and filing process.
- In a location accessible to all employees, post surplus lines requirements by state, including rates and fees, SLB license, state-specific reporting periods, payment dates, required affidavits, forms, policy documents, disclosure wording, and other applicable information. Update and inform as changes occur.
- Coordinate and complete surplus lines filings for all Risk Solutions offices
- Follow licensing, record keeping, insurer eligibility, diligent search, tax, and fee remittance, policy disclosure and delivery, and independent procurement and industrial exemption rules set by each state.
- Establish a resource file available to all employees for topics such as NRRA Compliance Guidelines by state with changes as they occur, FET, and self-procured insurance.
- Assist the sales and service teams with (1) selecting the appropriate surplus lines license; (2) reporting the surplus lines transaction to the appropriate insurance authority; (3) remitting the premium tax and fees due on the transaction to state tax authorities; and (4) assuring compliance with all the requirements of the surplus lines codes.
- Follow and implement approved regulatory changes to minimize risks for Risk Solutions.
- Work with the various states' surplus lines tax and stamping offices on audits and inquiries.
- Work with the Finance team to ensure all tax and surplus line payments are made on time.
- Communicate issues to the Director of Client Services to ensure swift resolution of outstanding issues.
- For designated states, (1) report the surplus lines transaction to insurance regulators; (2) remit stamping and other fees due on a monthly or quarterly basis upon receipt of invoices; (3)remit premium tax due on the transaction to state authorities quarterly, semi-annually and annually and (4) assure compliance with state surplus lines statutes.
- Assist the sales and service teams with determining Home State and appropriate surplus lines broker license for reporting taxes and fees, working knowledge of the Agency Management System and ImageRight filing system.
- Set up a filing system for the Surplus Lines Dept. Establish procedures for compliance.
Qualifications:
- Ability to manage heavy workloads and meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to interact professionally with peers and management.
- 5+ years of previous industry experience, including exposure to surplus lines and or premium tax filings preferred.
- Basic accounting knowledge preferred.
- Ability to process and understand state surplus line filing requirements.
- Must be proficient in MS Office software (Word, Excel, & Outlook).
- Must have good communication skills and possess good time management skills.
- Action-oriented with an attention to detail and documentation.

Pay Range
19.2344 - 21.15 Hourly
The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
