Job Description
Overview:
As an integral member of the accounting team, the Staff Accountant is responsible for recording daily accounting transactions, producing accurate and timely accounting reports including financial statements (and Joint Venture reporting). The scope of the responsibilities includes preparation of the initial draft of financial and/or operational statements, and all other reporting and analytical requirements through extensive period-end working paper procedures and preliminary analysis.
Key Deliverables:

Prepare journal entries, including sales, cost of sales, payroll uploads, etc.

Prepare and review appropriate subsidiary schedules for the financial statements.

Maintain the General Ledger, Balance Sheet Reconciliations while upholding accuracy and deadlines.

Preparation of invoices/billbacks for intercompany

Process clearing/suspense account reconciliations, intercompany billing and reimbursement, including joint venture billings

Request and process capital calls from Joint Ventures

Prepare and maintain monthly and quarterly checklists to facilitate efficient month-end and quarter-end close process including banking and check disbursement, and month-end quarter-end duties.

Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end working papers including full balance sheet reconciliation, ledger and sub-ledger journal entries, supporting financial and operational statements, and any required variance analysis

Maintain and improve system-generated reports, using excel & ERP system reports (InformXL, Vena, Power BI)

Assist in the preparation of business tax, tax filings, documentation for internal or external auditors

Maintain accounting and land system data that supports recording of land sales, cash receipts, deferred revenue and other financial reports.

Prepare analysis of various accounts – warranty, insurance, cost of sales, ad hoc, etc.

Prepares month-end, quarter-end and year-end working papers, including supporting financial and operational statements, and preliminary variance analysis

Prepares quarterly and year-end reporting packages for the corporate partners.

Assist with special projects as assigned (creating procedures, forms, templates, etc.)
What You Bring:
-
Accounting designation (or in process of obtaining) with 3 - 4 years’ accounting experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience

Strong general ledger and reconciliation experience

Solid verbal and communication skills
-
Proven experience in financial reporting and working paper preparation, full-cycle and job cost accounting

Self-motivated, comfortable taking initiative, detail-oriented, possesses superior organizational and problem-solving skills, and ability to work under time-constraints.

Ability to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
-
Able to work with multiple departments/managers and assignment simultaneously
-
Proficiency in MS Office, including current Excel (intermediate level), Word, Outlook, and reporting skills.

Experience in real estate development and homebuilding would be an advantage
