Coop/Intern candidates pursuing an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering focused on Power System (Master or Ph.D) are welcomed to apply.
This internship is with the Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Planning group responsible for the interconnection of DER projects to the Eversource electric distribution system in New Hampshire. Gathering of electric system data and DER data for review and evaluation and; determination of the DER project impact is a prime objective of DER Planning.
Successful candidates will primarily be involved on preparing DER pre-application reports (technical screenings), DER Fast Track Screenings, and interfacing with other engineering groups within the company to obtain technical data. In addition, successful candidates will be also involved with DER system impact study case preparation, model validation and power flow analysis. Previous hands-on power flow software experience and Distribution/DER knowledge is high desirable.
A distributed energy resource (DER) is a small-scale energy resource that can be used to generate and store electricity. DERs can be connected to a distribution utility's wires or installed on a customer's premises. They can include:
- Reciprocating engines
- Combustion turbines
- Energy storage systems
- Hydrogenerators
- Rooftop solar panels
- Battery storage
- Wind turbines
- Fuel cells
- Microturbines
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
- Proficient with Synergi and PSCAD or similar software tools.
- Strong understanding of power system concepts such as power system analysis for both steady-state and transient, power distribution, DER interconnection, power system protection.
